Noisy exhaust

My Jaguar 25 has the single cylinder Volvo MD5 inboard, however it seems to have a particularly loud exhaust (it has that thump/thump/thump of typical of a single cylinder!). The manifold and pipework are all sound - it's just the loudness of the system. Are they all that noisy (Jaguars and/or Volvo MD5s)?

As the cooling water outlet (sea water cooling) is through the exhaust system I assume it's a 'straight through' system. If it's just the nature of this set-up is there any way of reducing the noise levels?

A waterlock in the exhaust pipework will reduce a lot of the noise, as will a muffler. I fitted a waterlock into the exhaust pipe from my Bukh, and almost silence (relative to what it was) reigned.

Have a look at <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.vetus.nl>http://www.vetus.nl</A>

I've spoken with the Vetus dealer and ended up buying a waterlock. I'll fit it soon and see if it makes any difference! Apparently it should do as the dealer was surprised I was running an exhaust with out one - it seems modern boats have them as standard!
