Why is it we go nuts at anyone bringing a suitcase on board but seem quite happy to have a massive hard cannister weighing half a ton to hold a liferaft we should never use.

I would have a real problem storing a cannister liferaft anywhere on TC. But, I think if it was rolled out more, like a sail bag, or even longer then it could be flatter and I could have it on the coach roof without obscuring my view. Like a long kit bag I suppose.

Valise liferafts don't really seem much different IMO.

So who decided Liferafts should come in a box and why:?

I have to confess to taking hard suitcases on board myself. In fact the access to the storage area under our cockpit was made so that big hard cases would fit through it.

Reason, sometimes when we go away on the boat I have to be prepared to leave it and fly off somewhere else with suits, papers, etc. Have had some strange looks and questions when carrying them along the dock /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif. But like many things, people without minds expansive enough to consider that there may be a valid reason jump to conclusions.

You're probably right, but then I don't have a liferaft either. Any visitor bringing a suitcase would be asked:
a) Just how long did you think it will take us to get to Cowes?
b) I hope it floats and you've got a paddle for it, 'cos it won't fit in the dinghy!

Come to think of it, if it floats then maybe I've solved the liferaft problem!
