Mike an aside -

I liked your current issue of Air Waves and the picture of your 'crew' - very cosmopolitan.

Re: Good Old Blighty.

"the national anthem was played here before the movie show started (maybe a difference of patriotic importance?)".

Surely that was done to catch a captive audience and stop them rushing for the last bus during the anthem at the end of the show.

Re: Good Old Blighty.

I think that was so. While it was played they also had the lights out ready for the film - I assume to discourage people coming in during its playing too.

Guns, and sticking to them.

I was in company of two other Scuttlebutters yesterday when Tosspost of Titchfield asked for a radio check. We smirked. "Poor fool, he's going to be disappointed" we thought. And then SCG replied. "Tosspot, you are loud and clear". Collective groan.

Given that as far as one can tell, the average boat parked in a Solent marina is only untied 2.74 times a year, the odds of most boat drivers having heard SCG discouraging radio checks are low. They have to keep up the hard line!

Re: Guns, and sticking to them.

Yes, I was in the Solent over the weekend and was disappointed to hear SCG (and Portland CG)replying to requests from all who asked. The previous wekend they were telling all and sundry that they wern't doing anymore....and a large number were left "hanging on" with no response......I wonder if they were climbing the mast to give the ariel a shake!

My "crew" this weekend sails on the east coast and he said it's the same problem there!

Ken

I could have posted a nice pic of the occasion but sadly the scrubbers' pimp failed to capture the moment!

I was trying this all day yesterday

And got a load of beer in which I had to drink on my own as you lot never responded, along with some Orkney Cheddar, a jar of seriously strong pickled cauliflower and a dozen pickled eggs.
Where were you?
Sincerely Yours

Re: Guns, and sticking to them.

While down at Padstow last week I heard a lot of calls to Falmouth who each time they responded requested ships call sign, I noticed 2 in 3 calls went quiet at this point. Ch16 in this area was very quiet, so something must be working.
