I am posting this message from the older Firefox 24.6.0 (the version coming with the latest tor bundle).
My plain Firefox updated automatically to 30.0 and the text box used to write the message now appears as blank and non writeable.
My desktop is Linux based. I have not tried yet using Windoze with the same firefox release.

Only the subject field remains writeable.

I hope this can help the administrators.

Thank you.

Go into Settings, then General Settings, then scroll down and in Miscellaneous Options make sure Enhanced Interface is selected.

I also have Fx30 on Linux and don't see this. And I use the standard editor.

However the symptoms are the same as the bug which causes signatures editing to fail in some browsers. That is caused by 'mixed-content' error.

Does it happen with addons disabled? (help > restart with addons disabled)

Try this:
Type about:config
Type mixed into the filter
Is security.mixed_content.block_active_content set to true (default)?

If so, double-click that line which will change it to false
Leave that tab open for later

Does the problem go away?

If not double-click that setting again to change it back to true.
