Only a short trip from Mercury to Ocean Village but it's always been the end bit that's stopped me doing it before so distance isn't really the concern i.e. berthing at the far end is the angst. Didn't go without a hitch, after 3 attempts of getting the boat alongside enough for me to hop off, I gave up and came in bows to due to the wind blowing me off the berth going in stern too. more control going in bows to. will turn her around later today when this breeze has (hopefully) abated.

Another little tick in the box :)

"Said the actress to the Bishop" !!!!!!!............... .......... nice one G.....what is the next box for ticking ?.......... turning round in a breeze ??................................... I'll get me coat !!

Be glad you're used to crew, when I got the Cranchi I was helming single handed from day one as the GF was busy with work so I went playing with it myself (ooh er). 39ft on your own against a 2/3kt current can be interesting but the bigger the boat the easier imho (to a certain size, obviously)

Boat turned around Steve, fresh to strong beeze (F5-6) at present according to SotonMet pushing me off the pontoon but nailed it on the second attempt, do I qualify for a sit down with a beer and a chuffed look on me mush? have taken a video of the 'aftermath' just for you... in the process of uploading it

Well done - single handing really opens up your options for days out on the boat when no crew available. Where next?

The Chiropodists!! :) suffering from the result of a mad moment this afternoon where I thought it'd be a nice day to walk from Ocean Village to Mercury Yacht Harbour. BIG mistake doing the walk in deck shoes :( you're right though, feel I can go pretty much anywhere now when I'm on my tod

Well done Gary, it's a great feeling isn't it? Have you started plotting your single handed transatlantic crossing. Yet? ;) I remember a thread on here a few months ago about attempting such a trip in a small boat :o.

seriously though, single handed boating gives access to some options that have been poo pooed by swmbo in my case, I tend to enjoy it, but I prefer a crew most days as it can be lonely. Going out alone also increases the number of days I can get out as well as smmbo is constantly torn between her crafting hobby and hanging out with me and the dog.

As you rightly say, it's the berthing at the end that is the most difficult part, especially in a breeze, but you've taken the pragmatic option of parking the best way you can and coming back to it later, definitely a success. :)

Nice one Gary. I had a problem mooring and getting blown off when the wind was blowing in the wrong direction for me a few weeks back so I took the advice from a sailing mag, i rafted up against my neighbour and pulled the boat onto my berth from the pontoon. I did this as I thought rafting up in a controlled fashion was better than getting blown on uncontrolled.

Yep, good job Gary. I was fine single handed on the Sunline. The Azi is a bit more daunting, as to date I have steered from the fly, so a bit of a track to the lines :)

thanks guys, even to the piss takers lols :) Chris, got to admit, before I moved from the bows in berth, I installed the big buffers for that very reason :) strange old day weather wise
