No it's not the Med. But you'd be forgiven for thinking so.

Covered 186 miles over 4 days doing a lot of fishing and relaxing around Anglesey. What a great bank holiday weekend.

Looks lovely. For those of us not familiar with the area, can you tell us where these shots were taken or better post a map? Also a bit of info about your boat would be interesting too

Mike These shots are from Ynys Meibon close to the Anglesey Race Circuit at Ty Croes on the south end of Anglesey. Lookin south and east towards the Llyn Penisula and Snowdonia. The Bay is known as Wreck Bay . Wreck is off Pen Y Parc headland.where the Kimya lies. It was close by to this area where young royalty had their first marital home.

Bruce great pictures but this is your next challenge...Skerries lagoon West Entrance.jpgIMAG0122resize.jpgIMAG0121resize.jpg

Sorry Deleted User. I thought people would be familiar with Anglesey... https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.1957075,-4.2422023,10z

I left Conwy on Friday morning and cruised to Carnarfon Bay via the Menai Straights and then "circumnavigated" around Caernarfon Bay and the Lleyn Peninsula with a guest before returning to Conwy on Saturday night to pick up the family and return to Dinas. The anchorage shots are Dinas Trefriw (Ynys Meibion) https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.1614431,-4.4495499,1552m/data=!3m1!1e3.

The boat is a old Formula 34 PC but cheerful and sound so I dont mind the kids getting beach sand and other grubby marks on her.....too much

Looks great Bruce, weather has been excellent and looks like it will continue for the rest of the week. Did you get my message on messenger? If all goes to plan, heading to Holyhead on Saturday but going to potter up there along the South coast.

Steve, TSB240 is the go to man when it comes to finding the perfect "local" spot given a weather condition.

But that one takes the cake! Holy cr@p Steve. Only if you tow me in!

No, I didn't get the message Dan...??.. Hopefully will be able to join. Just burnt 500 litres of fuel and currently on 1/3 tanks so I'll have to look at the tides etc to see if I can make a bunker stop before joining you on Saturday. Otherwise may pick you up on the South of the Island. Are you overnighting in Holyhead? That place is a dump, can I twist your arm for a nice anchorage? We'll get the low down from Steve. And no not The Skerries. Not unless it's mirror calm and promises to remain that way for the night.

Bruce I sent it on Facebook. It was more whether you are available on Thursday evening, the new boat is going in on the morning and was hoping your were free to come abroad for a quick shakedown on the Thursday evening. Heading back to Caernarfon on Friday morning. Holyhead isn't a certainty but want to make the most of the weather. If all goes to plan we will be out and about. I've been past the skerries but never in, it is well charted and the cruising guide shows the west entrance clearly

well done Bruce,

nice area (never been there...) but I'm afraid the only pic that really really looks like Med is the one I picked above. Actually, if there was a SQ78 in the water, I'd bet it was the one posted by JFM a couple of years ago. Striking similarities!

The others are really too green to be down here :p
or ppl wearing wrong type of clothing :p

Looking forward to the pic on the challenge posted, looks dead easy to me

cheers

V.

I meant the water's Vas. They were unusually blue and clear. Normally they are more a greenish hue from the plankton blooms we get this time of year. Clothes, well, it got hotter than we expected but even on a empty beach we are more reserved than to go about in a state of undress and underwear and still take photos :p

Edit: Re the Skerries Lagoon it's not so much navigating the lagoon, it's getting there and back. The area is renown for it's overfalls and reefs etc. It can be done at slack water but even so the passage fills me with dread. Not so much safety, but the ire of the Admiral should I spill her tea.

Thanks to BruceK and TSB240 for identifying the location. The race circuit is familiar through watching Fifth Gear but shamefully I never knew where it actually was. I'm guessing that the anchorage is untenable when there is any south or west in the wind?

Nice boat. I always liked the look of Formula boats and I never understood why they didn't sell here in as big numbers as say, Searay or other US marques. She seems to go well judging by the vid

The nice thing about the Lleyn and Anglesey is there is always shelter to be found at some point of the island or peninsula from the prevailing wind or waves. But you are correct, were I in Caernarfon Bay I'd head to the Lleyn and probably Porthdinllaen for anchorage in a South wind and to the North of the island around Moelfre in a West wind.

Moelfre

Well near St Tropez, where I am, it's grey and raining. My kids are the only ones in the sea or pool, cause they are used to cold water.

Fantastic pics BruceK. They make an interesting change to the usual Med and Solent stuff
