no-fuel boat propulsion ?

Now just build in the fins to the stern of the boat, and sit back and enjoy free transport ?

Or have a dinghy-sized version as a free-swimming tug from the bow ?

Brilliant idea ...... I've sat out a few calms with boat slopping around in swell, once so bad we took sails down for over 12 hours to avoid damage to them or the rig. Now if a mid-sized version could generate you say three knots in zero surface wind, you would then have just enough apparent wind to start sailing with. Wonder how the vectors of underwater tow and sailpower would work.

These things don't work if there are no waves, so they won't work in harbours or confined waters. But for passage making they might be useful. Basically, they convert wave energy into forward motion. I have no idea how much control over the direction of travel you have.

I think that's why they'd be so good in Poole or Chichester harbour. I suppose in an odd way you'd be borrowing some of the fuel from the Mobos roaring past.
