Last couple of times out my Raymarine RL80RC plotter with Ray GPS has
alarmed with "No fix" pop up. Last time, I quickly checked the GPS set up
and it did seem only a few satellites were being picked up. Should I be
getting the thing looked at or simply accept this happens?

Possible the Iraque situation had something to do with it, were the Hostilities going on when you lost signal, I was in Australia at the time and fishermen were complaining of bad signals being out by a mile or more or in some cases no signal at all.

Re: GPS satellite status

You can look at which satellites are inactive, or have outages planned here: http://www.navcen.uscg.gov/ADO/GpsActiveNanu.asp

Have a look around at the rest of the site, it's quite informative.
