No boating this weekend then!

We kept the boat in the water over the winter and unless we were snowed in we managed to use the boat nearly every other weekend. Due to temperatures we would often only pop out of the marina for an hour or so but it was always flat calm and I will always remember being at anchor watching the local yacht club dinghy sailing on New Years Day!

Now that the "summer" is here, we have used the boat less, and when we have managed to get out we have ended up heading back to the marina in the afternoon/evening with much stronger winds than when we left, which weren't forecast!

We haven't used the boat for the last 2 weeks due to the strong winds & rain and looking at the Met Office this weekend doesn't look much better with rain for Saturday and F5-6 gusts on Sunday! Maybe we will keep the boat in the water again this Winter and get her lifted out in May to do the annual maintenance and then benefit from the sub let money from our berth :-)

I don't think I will dread the winter as much as I used to!!!

Not until the kids want to give up playing with doughnuts and skis.

And I've got a bit more spare dosh (i.e. once the brats leave home)

supposed to be going to the Bucklars Hard meeting this weekend but the lad cacked himself on the way out to Cowes last weekend so reckon we'll give it a miss unless the weather forecast changes... no point in shooting his confidence down for the sake of a BBQ....

I know what you mean. SWMBO is happier in the marina with a glass or wine in hand than actually going along unless it is a lovely day, going out to sea is a no no if there is the word Moderate anywhere in the forecast.

Agree too windy again!

Its hugely important IMHO not to test the water and risk upset or worse if you get caught out.

save yourself for a nice day(s) and everyone is mega happy.

Problem, like last w/e, its wind and rain and that means a w/e under canvas if you do a 'boat' w/e as walking / tender mouching about look out too!

Had last week on the boat doon West and lost several days landlocked because of winds blowing too strong the wrong way. Mind you, it didnt seem to bother the jet skiers, they were out in it. Weather doesn't seem to worry them in the summer on thier SeaDoo GTI's! Maybe I should get one of them :D

well if it stays like that think we will need to cancel the planned photo shoot on Saturday! i only want some pictures so i can get the boat up for sale!!!

Our Solution:We have the boat moored in Chichester and like going to Lymington for weekends. As we got stuck in Lymington due to the wind, we decided to stay there for the summer and got a deal on a prime berth in Lymington Yacht Haven. As part of the Premier Marinas summer cruising package we get 2 months added onto to the end of our contract that helps to offset some of the cost.

Yes i thought of that when I saw some free berths at Easter, problem for me is getting to/from Lymington by car on Fri/Sun and having the boat there sort of takes away a favourite w/e spot to go by boat.

Bit like moving to Swanwick last year - whilst I like / even enjoy Swanwick its taken away a favourite cruising destination for a couple of days. Can't think why I would go to Puerto Solento for a w/e nowadays :-)

Just seen the F7/8 winds for the S coast - reckon in the gusts it will be horrid.

Happy to agree in early hours Saturday its going to be G8 around the headland of ST catherines point, needles etc but after studding the synoptic does anyone think it will be much more than 5-6 in the solent ?

It could be but dont you think its a bit early to write the we off already, Sundays alright isnt it ?

i WAS going to tow down to mercury after work on saturday.... me thinks another night in a real bed and arrive sunday am.....weather gods ??? .. MY AR*E !!............went out in an F5/6 last bankholl to cowes and to see the carrier USS George Bush... It took nearly 2hrs to get back from stokes bay....hohum

+1: Sunday afternoon out of Poole Harbour looks like it might be OK for a run to Studland to fish for sea-horses with the anchor.

The Sea Horses aren't biting well, I've not managed to catch one this year, maybe I need a bigger hook.

I had the week away before Easter, couple of nights in Yarmouth, a couple in Island Harbour and a couple on the 'amble. Wonderful, I reckon that was summer!.

We'd planned to go to Island Harbour Saturday, dinner at the Folly and take the kids to Ryde on Sunday for the beach and tatty fair.... looking at Windguru, I think not. Sunday prob okayish in the Solent but we're going to give it a miss and save the diesel for next weekend when it'll be hot and sunny :D:D

Planning instead to go and view a couple of boats on my long short list of possibles. Wonder if they'll be anything like the broker describes.....
