No alarms ......

.....shhh...... thanks Ross.

What a relief for everyone!

and the diagnosis was ?..............

The battery management system (BMS) required that the alternator regulators be modified and an additional wire connected to the field brushes.
Once this had been done the alternators would not act as machine sensed (required by the BMS) unless the BMS was actually connected.

Suffice to say that confused thinking, aided by a certain amount of misinformation, had led us to believe that the system should work in 'basic' (machine sensed) mode in the event of a failure (and therefore, we presumed, absence) of the BMS.

All appears to be now working as intended - time will tell.

Note to Apollo - mock ye not - much has been learned which may well prove of benefit to others in the future.

Makes a change for you to be saying that to me :D

When did you say we were invited to Sunday repast at the olde clubhouse ?

Now you know full well that any thought of leaving the gentle leafy environs of Dorking has you breaking out in a cold sweat and eagerly await the David Attenborough Tv programme as to if there be civilisation beyound the M25.
