One of my real recent success stories was installing one of these NMEA to WiFi boxes from this company in Australia.

Ordered from eBay Australia - https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=yakbitz&_sacat=0

It arrived in less than 2 weeks and is th size of a match box.

I wired it to power, GPS out from my E120 Raymarine plotter and it creates a wifi hotspot that my iPad can see and therefore talks to my iPad for navionics.

In short , it is brilliant and much cheaper than buying a GPS add on for a non sim card IPad.

My only regret is I should have bought the two input version so I could get the sounder in put as well.

Caveat - not affiliated in anyway.

Sorry if it is a dumb question but, can you let us know what we can do with the transmitted data through wifi. Or is it just a connection to the boat’s GPS? I would be very interested to get alarm triggers for anchor drift or high wind at my ipad. Do you think that this may be possible with this piece?

That’s what I could have gone for, but already had a point where I could get the NMEA GPS feed easily into the yakker and there was power there too. I’m really happy with it.

I have just ordered he does a Seatalk to WiFi. Now as well. Seatalk is simpler for me to tap into

How does this connect to the seatalk system? Had a quick look at the products and was expecting something that would plug in to a 5 way connector.

I've been toying with the idea of getting one of these http://www.yachtd.com/products/wifi_gateway.html

It's much more expensive than the bit of kit from Oz, but problem I have is ive only got one e7d mfd and was looking at a way of using my iPad as a second display instead of the hassle and expense of trying to install another mfd.

Cheers

Wow, thanks for the links - just what I've been looking for. Ordered one of the two input versions, so will see how it performs when it arrives.

Seatalk 1 is only 3 wires. +12 0v and data. Just connect in parallel

Hi,
I connected the unit to the network.
I will appreciate some guidelines on how to configure the wifi, and what sofware (Android or ios) can make use of data.
Thank you.

I've been using something similar for a while.
I'm not a Navionics man though.
There is a free application out there called Kplex.
You can load it onto a Raspberry Pi and it does much that same as the OP's solution.
The great thing about his solution is that it is an easy "turnkey" purchase - buy it and install it.
Kplex is a little more sophisticated as it can multiplex many different channels - inputs and outputs.
Mine is set up to take 2 NMEA channels in and output the data over WiFi.
I use OpenCPN on the mobile to pick up AIS etc from the NMEA off my Raymarine systems.
Kplex does all the routing for me.

For fun, I wrote a couple of applications - one for the on board ship's PC and another for my Android phone.
The apps mimic the boat's instruments.

This is a screenshot of the phone's instruments app - not on the boats at the moment - hence - no depth!!
You can switch between Depth, Course/Speed and Lat Long
All the data comes from the ship's NMEA via WiFi and Kplex

And I have the boat's PC at home at the moment - this is a screenshot of the instruments app from the boat's PC.
The boat's instruments app runs on top of OpenCPN - no data at the moment because the boat's PC is here at home!!

It was only for a bit of fun - I don't really use the instruments apps - the main ships instruments are the ones I use.
Again, for fun, I called the instruments "MikeMarine" - my name isn't Ray!!!

The Raymarine e7 MFD already has the capability to connect to your iPad via WIFI and using the Raymarine remote app will give a second station

NMEA to WIFI solution found for less than £30
I looked at the Ebay website you quoted but could not find anything for less than £30.
What am I missing?
I did buy NMEA-to-WiFi-Bridge-2-Port-Multiplexer which was £59.
Thanks for the tip however, it does look like a bargain
