On my S2 course computer there NMEA +and- in and the same for out .
Will these except a NMEA GPS ?
If so where will it show up ?
Other works will my RL 70 plotter see it and how about the ST 60 log SOG ?

My raystar GPS ha stop working and to replace it with a comparable once I would need to add a converter that lot going to cost over £300 .
While on eBay there GPS NMEA for less then £100 , not trying to be cheap but we had quite a lot of expense this season .

Any other ideas please throw them in .
Cheers

I'm pretty certain the S2 will pass the GPS data on to Seatalk, so the RL70 and ST60 will see it. Also, the RL70 has two NMEA 0183 input ports, you could use one of those for GPS data, i'm 100% certain that will work.

Ones like this will work (as an example):

Ship GPS receiver Antenna Module NMEA 0183 baud rate 4800 DIY Marine | eBay

Next time I'm back home in Suffolk must buy you a drink or three ?

Thanks again

IIRC the handbook for my S2 lists all the sentences it can parse from nmea onto the seatalk network. I know it doesn't do depth, but I would think GPS is probable.

Keith is correct, and you really need to check that both the intended sender and receiver in any NMEA0183 system can respectively send and receive the same sentence: RMC being the most comprehensive as it has UTC time and date, Position, course and speed. The manuals that came with the instruments should tell you. A potential pitfall which I had with some old instruments is that they used different NMEA versions and were very hard to connect, again, the manuals should give the version numbers. What I found from experience was that later instruments could usually read data from earlier senders, but not always the other way around.

Ended up buying one from the service centre who repairs raymarine as well as others.
The Cost a bit more then the ebay lot but they said they would send me a wiring diagram.
Of course problem is having it send outside the UK vat free so I don't end up paying vat twice .
Am I right in thinking that unlike seatalk where the yellow signal, red v+ and bare v- are standing colours that with nmea0183 the colour could mean anything?

You need to know which wires are which Vi, it will have +12V, -12V, NMEA - and NMEA +

Do you have a make/model ?

AV Map can't say the model until it arrives but service centre seen to know what they talking about , more then me anyway haha.
It probably be awhile before I get it as I try has to go to my son to be resend,
Has the cost of sending it to the EU was going to be half the cost of the idea again .
Possibly the reason of this is the work involved in sending it ex vat .
Anther rewaping job involving other people , Brexit got a lot to answer for .

Well the gps is still in the UK waiting to be sent out but I now have the wiring instruction , still not any wiser ,
Look like there five wires , red has to be 12+v where do The other wires go ?
on the NMEA connection on the course computer .

Course computer has four NMEA block V+ V- in and V+ V- out .
Also they say black yellow shield goes to common ground do they mean connect all three togather to battery V- or to the shield connection on the computer .
Cheers
