My Garmin 128 states it can supply NMEA data to 3 listeners. What would the effect be if I added a fourth? I'm asking before I try as the cable route will be tricky and I don't want to waste my time if it won't work or will upset the other listeners. The three are VHF, AIS and a GPS repeater. The proposed 4th is the tiller pilot.

Give it a try; at worst you'll find that one or more don't work or are getting corrupt data. Should be O.K. if the cable runs are not too long.

Alan.

Garmin also quotes 3 for the 3005c - but it is happy feeding 4 - VHF (SH), AIS (NASA Engine), Repeater (NASA) and a PC.

Having wired up the separate lead for the PC, I found this to be unnecessary as the NASA engine repeats the GPS sentences on the 38k output, which the PC will take as input for all my applications requiring GPS input.

As with most things the recomended number is what Garmin can "guarantee". As NMEA is a digital signal it depends both on the sender and the listener... if the listeners are good, they may pick up in a bigger chain.
