I have changed my instruments. The old ones in the bin. I bought a Garmin GMI 10 "bundle" as it seemed good value with the hull and mast transducers included. Installed and works perfectly. Very pleased. I liked the look of a Raymarine i70. Reasearch told me it would plug directly into the NMEA 2000 backbone with an extra "t" connector and an adapter cable so bought them all. Arrived and tried it last night. It powers up but isnt reading the transducers for some reason. Maybe I connected it the wrong way. I will try again tonight. Has anyone done this with success? apologies if this appears twice. My first attempt seems to have got lost in the machine. Thanks

I have connected Raymarine kit up to Garmin stuff including autopilots on a number of occasions without issue but these were Plotters like the CW and E series which are N2K certified, presumably you have used the correct Raymarine seatalk ng to device net male adaptor cable (part # A 06046) in which case it will plug straight into the Garmin Tee, it is impossible that it is connected wrongly as they are keyed, unless there is a fault in the cable or Tee of course. The fact that it powers up at least means the power in the backbone is reaching it which is a good sign. Problem may be, (and this is from memory and may have changed) we discussed this on my last MNEA exam and though Ray claim NMEA compatibility the i70 is (was) not N2K certified as it allows daisy chaining which effectively makes the drop cable a second backbone. It will be worth contacting Raymarine's tech dept about this. I will check on the database and see if the i70 has been certified but I doubt it as it will mean removing the daisy chaining that Ray love so much.

Edit to say that as of today the i70 is not N2K certified.

I would have thought it should work but I understand NMEA 2000 and the latest Seatalk are not quite the same and it is important to get the connectors the right way round. You also need a power supply to the backbone but I assume you have this as part of your Garmin bundle.

Is there the equivalent of a Global Reset on the i70? On Simrad kit if you do a Global Reset it searches for and identifies all the kit on the N2K net.

Have you looked in any of the i70 menus for N2K diagnostics/troubleshooting screens?

just back from the boat. I got it working. I think I must have plugged it into the wrong fitting on the back of the i70 last night? does that make sense? I unplugged everythingand put it all back together and reset the components. very happy. Thanks for the advice. It's a very pretty thing!
