Right click on Desktop - Left click on Properties - Left click on Settings - What is your screen resolution set at? I would guess at something like 1280 x 1024?

If you want the forum page to fill the screen - move the slider to the left to 800 x 600 - click OK, screen will resize and you should be there.

thanks both-already on full screen - have tried reducing screen resolution but prefer higher setting-still puzzled about why it is different with this pc compared to previous-both 17" monitors but the new one flat screen (suddenly found another lump of desk !)

a 17" CRT has a viewable dimension of only around 15", the rest is hidden inside the casing. with a flat screen you get the full 17" visible.

most web pages are designed for a screen resolution of 1024 x 768. if you use a higher resolution the page won't fill the screen. to make it fill the screen, right-click on the screen background, select settings, then adjust to 1024 x 768.

I have the same 3/4 view but not worried either, can still read everything.

Rather this than the sometimes extra wide screen.
