Nimbus anchor.

Our recently acquired Nimbus 310 has a stainless steel claw anchor. It does not set well in weed. I'd like to replace it with a new generation anchor. The Spade seems to be a possibility.

Having made a plywood and cardboard model of the S80 it's apparent that the fluke tip comes into contact with the hull as the anchor rides up onto the standard rollers.

Has anyone fitted a new generation anchor to a Nimbus? If so, which type and what modifications were needed? One option may be to add larger stainless steel guard plates to protect the fibreglass hull as the anchor settles into its stowed position.

On the Rocna website you can download a paper full size anchor for testing. Also if you increase the diameter of the rubber bow roller it will move the anchor a few vital millimeters from the gelcote

a side elevation pic of the bowroller arrangement with the claw anchor in place would help in understanding what's involved.

Bouba's suggestion is one way of doing it assuming there's no "gate" on top of the bow roller that the shank has to go through as that could well mean that either it doesn't come up or it doesnt self launch...
A friend on a P45 went from a 20kg claw to a 30something kg (MASSIVE size difference!) by just extending the gate by 40mm.

Why not try a Genuine Belgian made Bruce, the geometry is different to the Claw
The only issue i had with my Gen Bruce was, pipe weed

Thanks for the roller suggestion. I had already considered possible relocation of a roller (there are two, in line fore/aft) but not thought about simply increasing diameter.

Having previously had a 20kg Rocna for about 10 years on our last boat I'm a big fan but the Nimbus stemhead arrangement has the anchor shank drawn, by the chain, through a slot. That precludes using any of the roll bar type anchors.

The 'gate' does indeed restrict the choice of anchor. Self launching is not essential. I always go forward when anchoring.
