Thinking about our next boat now. Something a little larger than the MF 805.

Nimbus may be a possibility and there is a 320 Coupe on offer with "Twin Yanmar 4JH3-DTHE 125HP diesel engines". Further descriptions state "cruising speed 16-17 knots. Top speed 20-22 knots".

Does anyone know if these figures are realistic with these size engines? Seems optimistic to me.

Hi there,
ive no experience with the Nimbus, but i would say a 32ft boat with 250HP on tap would struggle to reach 22 Knots, especial loaded up.

As a side, i would be interested to know what you think of the MF 805,
was very tempted by one last year, as well as a Rodman 800.

what made you go the Merry Fisher way?

regards
Pete

We did quite a bit of research and the 805 is well respected for build quality, sea keeping, etc. Having looked around, we found our current boat and were certainly not disappointed. It is a "do everything boat". Happy at displacement speeds (we have just come back from a great week on the Norfolk Broads), but is has enough go in it for a 20 knot run out to a fishing mark.

Well planned layout with the right mix, for us, of accommodation/fishing space. I don't really want to sell her but I've been told it's not big enough (heard that before somewhere!), so it's got to go.

Ideally, I would have exactly the same, with just an extra 1 to 2 metres. The natural choice would be a 925 but I'm not keen on them. Open to other suggestions......

Hi,

I have a Nimbus 320, but with a single Volvo D4 210 hp engine, which cruises around 14-15 knots at 2900 rpm. With a clean hull and two-up, I have had 22 knots at WOT (3400 rpm).

Taking the above as a guide, I think the twin engined 320 should achieve similar speeds, so the quoted figures are not unrealistic.

Having owned my 320 for nearly two years, I can highly recommend this model, especially the very high quality of the build and finish.

Cheers, Allan

Hi Allan,

Thanks for that. Yes, a Nimbus looks tempting. May I ask, is there anything in particular I should look at prior to purchase?

Are there any downsides to ownership of a 320?

After much deliberation and trials of various boats, we chose a Nimbus 335, upsizing from a Merry Fisher 705. We were partly sold on Nimbus by the group of 320's in Torquay, 5 to 18 years old, all of which look in very good shape. Although at 2months since delivery and still new to us, we have been delighted so far.

She has a single 260HP, and cruises at about 17kn at 2800rpm, 23kn flat out. We tend to 'pootle' quite a lot at 1600rpm (7kn, top theoretical displacement speed). She handles well at cruise or pootle, though better at cruise if it is at all rough. Fuel is 2L/nm at cruise or 1L/nm at pootle.

PM me with a phone number if you want to chat.

Hi all

My friends have a 320 with twin 125's. 15- 16 it cruise is about right WOT around 19-20

I have a rodman 800 with a single 285 which cruises at 17-18 and WOT 25 with a clean bottom, I know of a few with twin 150's which seem to do a little better cruising at 20 and WOT around 27 ish.

Oscar24. If you want some info on the rodman and other boats we were looking at happy to share
