Nightmare!

If it were me - I'd get my smallest battery off the boat and make way for the nearest garage. I'm sure they'd be able to 'top you up'.

Good luck

That would also be the biggest battery then /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

The trouble is, I need to get about another 1800 miles with the boat, so this poses a problem that a quick top up isn't going to fix. It might help temporarily though, to get me to a marina. Having this problem on a bloody mooring buoy isn't fun.

Nathan, can't offer a lot of help down that far but I've had a quick look online and can't find a local garage within walking distance. Might be worth having a word with others there to see if you can get charge assistance from someone. Loaned out my charge system over the weekend to another boater here with a similar problem.
If you can make it as far as here I can loan out paper charts that cover a fair way North, shout if needed
Best of luck, but you might find it's going to be marina hopping if you can't sort the problem.
Battery voltage doesn't look particularly to be the problem though, more likely a loose connection or similar somewhere else

Nathan, just a suggestion, get yourself round the corner to Brightlingsea...this sort of breeze it shouldn't take you long!! Give Morgans a call on 01206 302003 and arrange to come in on one of their pontoons. They can offer all the services that you are likely to need in rectifying your problem...and there is the added bonus of being able to pop into the Kovalam if you decide to overnight!!

It's gusting 25knots, and sustaining 20, from the North East. Kudu is a sound (apart from electrically /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif ) craft, but I reckon I'll have a right old time trying to get her NE to Brightlingsea. I think I've got the problem down to a fault in the charge controller, so I'm heading further up the blackwater tomorrow. Hopefully I'll find somewhere a bit more sheltered than here, because it's a bit bouncy wind over tide. Can't wait for tonight!

Nathan, I should be heading to Bradwell tomorrow. If there is anything I can bring over etc etc let me know. I have pm'd my mobile number.

Nathan - as I've just said on the other post, I've just seen this. I can charge your battery tomorrow if you wish, although it doesnt' sound too low at that reading. Just post here if that's what you want and I'll get out to you in the morning on the Club launch @ 9ish, take the battery home and put it on charge - or even I might be able to put it on charge in the Yacht Club Shed so you can collect it at your convenience. Sorry I missed this today but have been out all day. Suspect I passed you at 9.15 this morning on the way out to TG.

Heybridge Basin is good. Give the Lock Keeper (very helpful chap) a call on phone or VHF (sorry not got almanac at work with numbers). Plan to arrive a bit before HW as I think he usually opens at HW.

Your inverter will be using about 1 amp plugged in and doing nothing .. For your phone you would be better off with a 12v adaptor .. You are using alot of power taking 12v dc upto 240v ac then back down to 3.5v dc .. You should be able to pick one up on your way round .. I have a small 12v solar panel on the boat that you could borrow .. I am on the Deben at Ramsholt .. be down Saturday lunchtime .. Let me know .. If you get sorted good luck with the trip .. Hope your dad is not to seriously ill ..

Most inverters dont produce a proper AC sine wave they just produce spikes of positive and negative current that sort of looks like AC. Personally, I wouldn't want to run a laptop of one for a long time.
