Nick ... I would cover collecting whatever for RNLI myself - but have to scoot off straight after show back to Baltic ..... and won't have time to pay it into RNLI account etc.

Is there any way we can have a box or something set-up for donations ... ?? Would be nice to have a reasonable turn out and a small mention in the RNLI mag !!!

Just an idea of course ......

Everyone to their own ....

Actually I am a person who prefers to give to lesser known charities where often a greater %age of the funds reaches intended cause. Unlike some of the well known majors who suck up serious %ages in admin and hefty big 4x4 Land Cruisers for the staff etc.
Many smaller charities cannot afford the advertising etc. even though special deals exist etc.

So Fatipa ---------- I agree with you so don't assume I am for big charities or RNLI only. (I even when possible donated direct into local hospital where I live computers and money ....).

The idea of RNLI is directly related to our sport / hobby and I though people would like a mention ... not for political gain or anything .... but for the nice feeling - in the RNLI mag ?? What is so wrong with that ????

Re: Everyone to their own ....

I know twisterken organised something for Macmillan cancer relief last time (a forumite had just died of cancer) as part of Macmillan's "World's Biggest Coffee Morning", but as I recall it didn't involve much coffee.

If another Charity or collection is on - no problem.

I only suggested RNLI as they are connected to water-sports ...

Majority rules and all that ..... no prob.

There are clearly arguments for and against a donation to any charity.

RNLI is as good as any, from a personal point of view, but I would prefer there to be a specific reason for a collection. eg sailing for the disabled.

Last year we collected for Macmillans as a forumite had suggested it, due to his wife's illness (she didn't die Jeremy, and to my knowledge is still enjoying life).

If there are any other suggested charities and reasons, lets have them socialised on here. There may be more interest in the week or two prior to the event, when more people are back from enjoying the summer and focused on Cherbourg.

May I suggest the charity 5girlsinaboat I tried to raise some money for them earlier this year on the forum. Small charity raising money for sailing associated charities, such as Sail for Cancer. 5 ladies, based in Emsworth, Sue Rutter their leading light, a cancer surivor herself. Lady Pippa Blake is patron.

Take a look at their website.

5girlsinaboat.org.uk

I know that Sue would be pleased to have our help.

However if anyone has any other suggestions, this can't be the only small charity looking for support.
