Back last night from a lovely weekend in the Scillies.

Left twenty to one in the nightime Saturday morning from Cork harbour. Couldn't go earlier as didn't finish work till 9pm on Friday. Had "fun" threading our way through the moorings in pitch dark. Had to use a "Moose" searchlight !

Arrived into fueling berth, St. Mary's 10 hours later. 68 gallons used at 15 knot average speed. Very easy approach into the Scillies. Not at all complicated.

Moored to a visitors buoy in The Pool but couldn't find anyone to pay our fee to !

Took a trip on an Island boat to Tresco on Sunday. The Abbey Gardens are well worth a visit.

The pubs everywhere on the islands were brilliant. The food was very good everywhere. The people are very nice. The Scillies are highly recommended.

Left Monday morning at 5am. Back in Cork 10 hours later again.

A memorable trip !

That sounds like cracking fun.

What were the sea conditions like?

I see you have an Astinor, I did consider the 1000 or was it the 1100 for a time when looking at school boats. Love the one big windscreen. Flybridge just a little too small in the end but they look great little boats. Family run business I beleive.

Yep, Clive, it was started by Jose Maria Iglesias but when the firm started getting too big, he had to get in two venture capital investors. My Spanish isn't too good (although I'm taking lessons) and this is what I believe he told me.

"Kindred Spirit" is definitely the first Astinor in Ireland and quite possibly the first one in the British Isles (but I could stand to be corrected on the latter point)

It has been a very good sea boat and quite a few people have been impressed by it in rough waters. I agree with you, though, about the flybridge, in fact I rarely use it. It's too windy.

The boat I aspire to,however, is a Nelson 38. But I'm a long way from the stack of readies needed for that !

Yep, long way to go but I'm glad I did.

I think it's a brilliant place. Will definitely go back but for longer next time. (I can't take holidays in the summertime, though.)
