Nice video on the Corryvreckan

Yes thank you for the posting; Was on a holiday many many moons ago in Crinan where heard of the Corryvreckan from the Locals and the Fishermen, it filled me with Awe and Terror, so did not venture that far in the small craft.
Only comment is that the Mix is perhaps awry in that the Music is too loud and imposes at times on the actual wonder of the Corryvreckan and tidal strems, but yes most instructional = easy to understand = understood

I went through Coirebhreacan at near-full chat on one of the Seafari ribs from Ellenbeich, and I strongly recommend the experience, though even with 400hp of Yamaha on the back it was nerve wracking at times.

Went through East >West on a 44ft pilot cutter (Ezra) about 10 years ago... we obviously missed most of the excitement- other than some standing waves at the west end. Must do it again some time :)

Enjoyed a very pleasant sail through there many tides ago on a Nicholson 55. Can remember going through somewhere similar but much narrower a day or so before. The name of it has completely escaped from me!

There's a few tight wee gaps around there where a Joint Services skipper might chance his arm - and everyone else's - by ego-stroking his way through. There's the Dorus Mhor and Cuan Sound ( Cleit Rock ), but the daftest tight wee squeeze would have to be 'The Grey Dogs'....

GreyDogs

By the way, when the 'Vreckan is going full-tilt - usually around Equinoctial Springs - you can hear the roar of the whirlpool from half-a-dozen miles away.

2012, that must have been the the last time we had nearly half an hour of continuous sunshine?
But I suppose the rain and the midges are what keeps the country wild.

The Seafari rib had a good play around there, too. The passage north of Eilean a Bhealaich was running fast and smooth but the passage south had a visible step in it, with water falling about 3'. Eek.

That was a calm day. WTF is it like in a storm?

No place to be in a yacht if Flood running outward against any strong Westerly - and difficult / impossible to head back in against tide when discover this. The Great Race extends some way off, and can create bad waves even in calm days.

However if checked weather forecast to avoid any brisk Westerlies and the tide tables, it is a great cut through that we have used many times, generally completely flat water and drama free (if timed precisely)

Light SE wind ain't that bad for going through with early flood ? Don't hang about though.
