I posted this morning on the MBM site that although I'm a stick in the mud (no pun intended) raggie type, and the first to squeal indignantly when a Princess zooms past me spilling my tea, I'd actually quite like to have a go. Because it looks fun. No, be honest, it does. For a bit, anyway.
And the response? Not the yacht crunching gin swilling nastiness one might expect (if you're bigoted and uneducated, as i am), but a whole sackful of replies saying "by all means, come and have a go."
Well, blow me down. Who'd have thought it. What a friendly bunch.
Mind you, no ones actually admitted to having one of those Princesses yet...
If no one hears from me again, you'll know it was all a motorised conspiracy and I've been cast adrift in some isolated marina somewhere. I think that's where they go, although I've never been brave enough to enter one myself...;-)
Question is, would we do the same for them? Be hospitable that is.

Looking at the thumbnails they all seem to be driving boats that dont look any faster than my raggie yacht; find someone who wants to give us a go on something seriously fast and gin spilling and I'm sure a return match can be arranged.

Will, we all read each others posts, saw this and panicked, fearful for your safety. Don't be fooled by this cunning lot, once they have lured you on to their boats and got you out to sea then who knows what will follow. Many scuttlebutters have gone missing in the past having received innocent looking invites from some extremely dodgy looking ID's. Would you trust a man called........... be careful.:))

I think their ok.. their preference is/are motor boats ours is sail ... their welcome with me anytime..but i hope its when theres a good blow and i think they will understand the thrill we get at 8,10 or 12 knts...anybody who realy has a beef about power or sail needs to give up boating IMHO...

I tend to agree, a blast in a seriously fast motor boat is great fun, I once even launched on a slipway tyne class lifeboat at st. davids, now that was a blast! But also a well found sailing yacht cranked over and cranked up is a delight not to be missed! You can see why sailing the southern oceans at 20+ knots is such a lure! I have met some very nice well qualified and profesional motor boaters and some real unqualified arsehole sailers! I'm a motor sailer owner where does that put me? answers to.............

Here's your Princess. And not far to travel. It's only in Plymouth. But what I want to know is where exactly in Cornwall is your Rag and Stick thingy. And when can I have a go on that.

I was one of the first to offer to take Will out on our boat and I think you'll find Tommy would give your raggie yacht a run for it's money. She's a Riva SuperAmerica and can spill lots of gin, although we only have Tanqueray on board ;-)

I admit it... I have a Princess 435 but if I win the Lottery I will buy a nice Swan then I can have a boat for when its calm and one for when its windy.

Because of the outrageous 'wash' problem that some 'stinkboats' cause, most of us raggies assume that powerboating lacks that esential 'boating' skill.
However, berthing something which has relatively huge windage & sits on the water, not in it, with tide & crosswind, even with bow-thrustors/twin engines, ain't always as easy as it looks. Neither is reefing etc, knowing one of these 'gin-palaces' is bearing down & seconds away from swamping you.
Perhaps there should be obligatory discipline swapping, to enable cross appreciation.
