A German Chandlery sent me an e-mail advertising Gleistein ropes, and on the company website I found this PDF of splicing instructions for all types of rope and splice. The opening picture does not appear, but once you have downloaded the PDF just scroll down the initial blank page and the rest is all there. Having looked at free splicing books a while ago, I liked Gleistein's best. Everything is in metric and the instructions are very good. Samson ropes has an imperial splicing book, but some of the instructions had missing steps or were unclear and I always had to convert old people dimensions into metric.

Some time ago I was determined to learn how to splice braided ropes and bought the tools, then watched the video a few times and had a go with the video running and pausing when necessary. Two failures then success! my splices have survived some pretty heavy loads!
