Nice place to stop between Sonning and Moulsford

In our expedition upriver in two weeks we plan to head to the Beetle and Wedge. With a first night stop at Sonning, any suggestions for day 2 with somewhere for the dogs to have a run about? Or could we make Moulsford in 1 day?

Might also have to find a shower for my wife. Will be a long 5 days without one. Is there a nice marina somewhere along there?

There's a marina at Benson with showers and a cafe, if you're going beyond Moulsford.

BTW: Make sure you book the Beetle and Wedge.

You can easily make Moulsford in a day. I did Henley to Moulsford in around seven hours including stops for shopping at Tescos and an hour for lunch.

If you do want to stop overnight Pangbourne Meadows springs to mind.

Thames & Kennet marina, just above Sonning have showers. Pangbourne is a good place to exercise dogs and humans, providing you get there at the right time, it is very popular, especially at weekends.
Beetle & Wedge is excellent and doable in a day from Sonning easily!

You could really push the boat out, so to speak, and actually stay overnight at the Beetle and Wedge....swmbo would give you real brownie points-much better than just a shower ! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We usually go (when our engine runs!) from Henley to the Childe Beale Estate, would stop at Pangbourne but there only seems mooring spaces when we don't want to stop there.

I thought the B&W was only a restaurant now, the hotel was sold off as a private house. I may be wrong but that's the way I see it.

[/ QUOTE ] Think that its just the boathouse restaurant at the beetle now no hotel as its been turned into a private house ,the Leathern bottle just downstream is excellent as well.
Theres mooring just below Goring and just below and above Cleve lock with lots of space for dogs to run at both but Cleve is only a short distance from the restaurants so maybe not ideal.
Some mooring at Mapledurham on the lawns straight after the lock on the far bank and farther up by the Alpacas[spelling].
The showers at thames and kennet are excellent and the marina is very friendly and calm esp since that crazy No Regrets guy left /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif.
Child beale is a good mooring to Steve.

You are right Ian. The B&W is just a restaurant now and a bloody good one too. However the have retained one letting room in the restaurant owners cottage.
Leatherne Bottel. Forget it.
