Nice mobo spotted entering the Hamble / spot the boat

Well, for that couple of steel bars attached to the swim platform, "massive" is actually an understatement.
They look designed to destroy the dock rather than the boat, in the event of a stern-to mooring going a bit out of hand...!
If you've seen them in flesh, do you have an idea of what they could be meant for?
They look way oversized for anything I can think of!
Nah, they're for swimmers to hang on to and to tie tenders on to the bathing platform. You can see the holes for the swim ladder between the 2 bars. Maybe they're so chunky in order to protect the swim ladder from being clouted by a tender trying to tie up

Thanks for the link. Wow.
We just filled our fuel tanks - 3,500 litres. Enough for a whole year with luck :encouragement: How many minutes would Level 8 run for at full chat with that amount of fuel? (OTOH if we were doing the same passage it might arrive a few minutes before us) :nonchalance:

On full chat I would guess you will consume about 4x what you normally do - and that you will arrive a few seconds earlier.

Just a guess but IMHO about 3-4 hours

Actually, the typical NMPG numbers on big and fast vessels are remarkably constant, from whenever they are steadily on the plane, all the way up to WOT.
In other words, I would expect a boat like this to burn about the same amount of fuel for any given distance (as opposed to time, obviously) at 20 or 35 knots.
Which means that you could make a 100nm passage in less than 3 hours instead of 5, at the same cost.
And I wouldn't be surprised if you would actually burn MORE fuel by making the same passage at 15 knots (=almost 7 hours)...

Our Fleming 55 holds 3,800 ltrs, and we burn approx 2,700 a year cruising which includes a 2 months plus cruise on the west coast of France. We used to hammer around in previous planing boats at 27kts but we've found that 8kts in Play d'eau, cruising with the sea rarher than fighting it, to be simply magnificent. Time at sea, restful, and gentle. A sign of growing old, perhaps?
