Hi, I am searching, without much success, for a site/forum for Nic 30, or even generally for Nicholson yachts.
Can anyone help?

Yes, I have . I think her yard number is 25. Made in 1979. The details are a little sketchy, and I can't find a plate. That's the kind of info I was hoping to obtain.

Nicholson information

There is a very active Nicholson 38 site on which Jermy lines, who worked for
Camper & Nicholson for many years, can be contacted. He is now a voluntary archivist
for C&N and may be able to help.

Happy Hunting

Hi Dave, if she was built in 79 she must be a late one out of the mould - they had a very short lifespan AFAIK, according to Kings Easton and sailboatdata information, being repolaced by the Ron Holland half tonner in the mid 70s, so 79 sounds a little late if her number is 29.

If you do some research, you may be able conceivably to contact the designer, Raymond Wall. I understand he lives on Vancouver Island, (he moved on to design and produce CS yachts) and in the last couple of years gave a talk on yacht design to a Vancouver yacht club. But he must be getting on a bit...

I'd be interested to know how you think she goes. And a pic would be lovely. :)

Hi x25dave,

The last of the Nic 30s was hull No.63, "Spread Eagle Of Lombard Street", built in 1975.

It sounds to me as if what you have is a Nicholson Half Tonner, designed by Ron Holland; the forerunner of the Nicholson 303.

What's your boat called ?

Best Regards,

Dave Seer.

I must have been mis-lead on her date.
I have looked at pics and she is definately a nic 30

originally called "Chic-Nic".

I bought her from Liverpool 2 years ago, and have been upgrading her since then.

Thanks for the help and info

Regards Dave

The last of the Nic 30s was hull No.63, "Spread Eagle Of Lombard Street", built in 1975.

Sailboatdata lists 63 Nicholson 30 Mk 1s being built from 1973, then a separate entry for a MkII, no figure for numbers built, and no 'last built' date either.

The only differences seem to be an increase in sail area from 453 to 475 sq.ft., and 3cm onto the keel!

Their info is rather sparse on this model!

I am the owner of Spreadeagle of Lombard Street! At last I have found a thread on a forum to talk about her!
I have owned her since 1987 (and have never wanted another, love her to bits).
She was, as you correctly say, no 63 of only 64 of these ever built and entered the '79 Fastnet, only to retire early due to the skipper breaking his leg when the stove fell on him (or so I was told). She proudly has the "79 Fastnet" plaque on the cabin lining. She was fitted out superbly as she was commissioned by Barclays as a "Bank boat", for their sailing club in those days.
She is currently lying in Port Leucate, France. (Having previously been moored in Lymington Yacht Haven, Sovereign Harbour, Brighton Marina, Oliva Nova Marina (Spain) and Denia El Portet (Spain).
If anyone wishes to know more about her please message me here - I'll be watching!

Hi I owned a Nic 30 (formally TTFN now named New Start) for a good few years. Did a lot of work to improve and maintain her. New mast and rigging, new engine, new heads, rebuilt rudder and pintals, new head linings. The list goes on. I still have some of the templates and recall a lot of the planning. If I can help please PM.

Regards

Simes
