Ni-MH Batteries....discharge without use?

keep charging the spare batteries but they seem to lose power relatively quickly....dont know exact time

How long after charging might I find they are drained without use?


they are probably 2-3 years old now but i only charge them when i KNOW i might need them.

Every time a NiMHbattery is charged, it becomes slightly less efficient at storing juice.

Most say a life of 1000 cycles, but few seem to attain this holy grail.
2 - 3 years old, get ready to replace them.

How fast is reletively quickly, hours, days or weeks. I generally expect to recharge if they have been left mor than 1 week although new ones can do a few weeks.

NiMh batteries are good for capacity, but go flat in about 2-4 months if unused. There are some new types (eg 'Hybrio')that self-discharge slower, but are slighly lower capacity. Also they all seem to like a bit of work, though they do not lose capacity nearly as badly as NiCads if underworked/topped up.

1 - 2 weeks if you want any decent power such as torches, pmr(s). Up to 2 months for lower power use such as GPS or clocks.

The brand makes a difference, I find my uniross out last anything else I have bought, but they are more expensive.

they are for the H/H VHF and chartplotter, so will make sure i take them home and recharge them evey couple of weeks.
