I've just received this email. Probably a good idea.

Following the disaster in London, I forward the following circular: East Anglian Ambulance Service have launched a national "In case of Emergency ( ICE ) " campaign with the support of Falklands war hero Simon Weston.

The idea is that you store the word " I C E " in your mobile phone address book, and against it enter the number of the person you would want to be contacted "In Case of Emergency".

In an emergency situation ambulance and hospital staff will then be able to quickly find out who your next of kin are and be able to contact them. It's so simple that everyone can do it. Please do.

Please will you also email this to everybody in your address book, it won't take too many 'forwards' before everybody will know about this. It really could save your life, or put a loved one's mind at rest.

For more than one contact name ICE1, ICE2, ICE3 etc.

Blimey John now that's what I call a good idea. Surprised no-one else around here has mentioned it/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Already posted by Jimi but thanks for drawing attention to it as I didn't read that.
It sounds like a smart idea

Yes. If you have the same number twice in the directory confuses it. The result depends on the phone logic. In my case it comes up as 'anonymous'.

I just put "I.C.E." after my home number which now reads "Hoose I.C.E." which I'm sure would be understood - At least up here anyway !

The 2 numbers the same in the directory made me think, so this is why I went this way. Can anyone see any problems with it ?

Message for Ana

Ana - here I am!

Guys - don't be confused - the purpose of my reply is to verify the legitamacy of this idea for someone who agrees it's a great idea but wants verification it's genuine (a journalist here in NZ).

Good idea - taken up in NZ

I did a bit more research on this yesterday and discovered that Vodafone UK also backed the campaign. I forwarded this idea to one of the NZ papers and within 24 hrs they had printed the idea and Vodafone NZ have now taken up the cause.

Thnaks for that!
