The pier is back in operation. New Inn doing a big range of food. We just had some sandwiches but they were very nice with full salad and crisps trimmings.
Which pier are you referring to. The one featured in the video in post #8 on the eastern side of the Newtown river from Newtown Quay leading towards Newtown

or the one on the western side of the entrance that takes you past Lower Hamstead Farm and ultimately on to the A3054 not far from the Horse and Groom and which was the original subject of the thread.

You get a glimpse of the latter at 1min 55 on the video:

That's the one I know. Been ashore there a few times either to a beach BBQ or to walk to the New Inn. Also taken the dinghy up to Shalfleet Quay 2 or3 times

Normally you'd go to Shalfleet Quay to walk to the New Inn, it's quite a hike from the Hamstead pier. If you do walk from the Hamstead pier you would get to the Horse and Groom at Ningwood first.

Pier is usable, they were putting new piles against it yesterday but they don’t mind people tying up.

The New Inn is under new ownership and seems to have very informal opening hours. I’ve been twice this week and it’s not been open.

Went to the New Inn beginning on May this year. Website had no opening times listed, nothing on door but google said open. We arrived at 5pm and landlady turned up at 5.45pm.
Once In, the beer was good and a group of us stayed for a meal. Food was quite good so would happily go back there, but the opening hours need to be sorted out and listed to make a journey worth it.

Went there this afternoon.
Arrived at Shalfleet Quay about two hours after high water and there was plenty of depth for the outboard up to the quay.

Walked to the New Inn and it was OPEN. Finally.
The staff were lovely and the food absolutely fantastic. Like REALLY good. Very impressed.
They do just need to advertise their opening a little better.
