I travelled down from Blyth sailing in company with five boats on Saturday to overnight on the city berths. Great sail catching a ride up the Tyne on the flooding tide. Great Coms from the marina staff who lifted the blinking eye bridge for us and managed our arrival well. A great resource managed well and effected a very pleasant stop right in the heart of the city... No problems and a massive choice for eats and drinks with the quayside market to enjoy on Sunday! a great weekend spent with good company.... Now I remember why I enjoy sailing so much.

Hi Smeaks

Pleased you enjoyed your trip and suggest you guys make the best of it this year (while they give out a free berthing pass 'only' if you arrive in May to qualify for this year only).

Yes it might be fine at the moment but they never listened to anyone that they asked for advice before they built the pontoon and then proceeded to putting it in the wrong place for a starter! ( 'everyone said' It should have been downriver of the Millennium bridge).

After this year it is generaly thought it will become a 'white elyphant' as just look at the berthing costs for a start! Cheaper to stay across the road in the hotel and you get breakfast!

To make things worse the 'floating shed' (which cost £500.000) was put on the old down river pontoon is staying there 'for free' (till end September) blocking any other boats berthing access, this was the much favoured pontoon that only needed extending!.

Is it a Marina? no, there are no dedicated toilet facilities at all (only a public toilet a walk along the quayside), a good pontoon yes, in a good area yes, berthing costs rediculas.

Latest I hear is they are now worried about the bearing on the Millenium bridge!!

Seaham marina hopes to finaly open late June and we hope to see you in Sunny Blyth soon!

Thanks mike... As you say make hay whilst the sun shines! We raffled up against one of the party boats whilst we aired for the bridge. To be honest it is basically fre this year with the offer and then I suppose market forces will set the price structure eventually. Still I have to say it was very Speacil running the bridge and the experience was first class in general. Give me a shout when your up in Blyth!

Will be at NCM on the night of the 12th then we (3/4 boats) plan a cruise down to Hartlepool Marina next Monday (14th) subject to weather! but plan 'B' might be to Blyth :).

PM me your boats name again, I forgot (another senior moment :D!)
