morning all

i'm seeking some advice on my next purchase, i live in Scarborough but due to a severe lack of moorings i'm finding it nessasarry to moor my boat on the tidal river at york.

The boat needs to sleep 5 adults due to having teenagers and i would prefer a flydeck. I'm wanting to go out to sea every now and then to fish so something suited to sea use is a must.
I have £50,000 cash to spend...any ideas from more experienced people than I most welcome.

regards

Mark

going from York down to the sea is quite an expedition. It takes about 4 hours to the start of the humber and then you usually end up anchored for a few hours waiting for the tide. Then its @ 1 1/2 hour to Hull marina and beyond, What people do is go down to the humber for a weekend or week or similar and go and do a load of sea based stuff. When they have had enough go back up the ouse to York. If you want to go out to sea on a more regular and accessible basis what about keeping the boat in Hull marina - tidal access is about 3 hours either side of high water. Boat wise for £50K is you should get quite a lot of choice around the 38" to 40" size which would be good at sea and in strong tidal waters. Rather than choose a specific model have a look based on condition and engine size/state. As always check out the engines and hull as a priority soft furnishings and electronics are easy to change.

Boats are always a compromise, a good sea boat isn't always the best choice for use on a river and vice versa. The north sea is not a forgiving place at the best of times. So on a completely diferent tack - look at a boat for river use and when you want to go fishing, go out on a charter boat. Have a good think about how much you will use the boat for fishing at sea and how much for family weekend etc.
