Hi all, does anybody know whether a motor boat with a 3' draught could moor in the marina at The Swan hotel, Newby bridge. Somebody was calling me back yesterday. I have tried trawling the web but no joy.

Hi Scottie, the answer is slightly protracted. I was keen to know so I took a drive up there and spied a chap working on the roof of his mates boat, it was Trevor and the boat who's roof he was working on belonged to Paul, who coincidentally was a roofer. Anyway....If the river is flooding and you take exactly the right route in, it is possible to get to certain moorings...yay! However, you are then stuck there until the river is again in high water, at which time you can reverse the procedure. But make sure that you are back before the water level drops again. Thanks to "Trevor", local lad, long term berth holder and "pilot" if you ever feel the urge to try it. A couple of berths down was a Princess 33, which he tells me has not moved in the 6+ months that the owner has had it there because he could never time the high water with his free days and they were going to relocate it to Swansea. It's like this he said..."if you could get big boats down here it would be full of 'em wouldn't it".

Were you thinking of mooring at Newby bridge?

Not really would be my answer. You can check the river levels for far sawry which is a good barometer for Windermere. Anything less than 0.6 on that gauge and I would not risk the river Leven as far down as the swan

if you look historically it’s often much lower in the summer and your boat would effectively Be trapped unless it’s bad weather.

the moornings are cheap down there for a reason

much better paying the extra at the marina village or aquatics or going cheap on a swinging mooring and enjoy the lake And boat when you want

Ah, right. I was going to ask you what boat you had at the moment. I think for me I am going to heed the words of Bbroomlea and not end up like the Princess 33.
