Just joined the forums officially but have to confess I have lurked here for quite a while....... probably for more than a year!

I have finally taken the plunge and become a boatowner so feel the time is right to "come out".

I spent over a year searching for the right Sadler 34 but couldn't find it despite travelling as far as Jersey and Guernsey to view boats. I recently purchased a Westerly Tempest which has proved to be a pleasure to sail and good accomodation despite it's quirky layout.

I hope to make the odd contribution on the fora without upsetting too many people.......... how naive can a newbie be!!

Paul.

Well, I did say, without upsetting "too" many people. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Never said I wouldn't upset anyone!

[/ QUOTE ]O.K. O.K. I give in, do tell why you could not find the right Sadler 34? you were not looking for one with gold plated taps were you?.
I am interested in what you define as the "right Sadler 34".

Congrats on coming out...
If we get enough members on Scuttlebutt we could empty a few marinas during the Sept cruise.
Hope the sailing goees well...

Welcome, commiserations on not finding a Sadler 34, cracking boats (not a reference to sandwich compression problems)

Hello Paul and welcome.

Last Wind Dancer I saw was a multi-million dollar motor job from the US that a friend was captaining at the time!

I read somewhere that Wind Dancer is the second most common name for a pleasure boat......... one of the reasons I might change it! And no, I don't know where they got their stats from.

Well, I believe most people's opinion from what I have read is that you know the "right boat" as soon as you look round it.

I viewed six Sadler 34's in just over a year, both shallow and twin keel as the deep fin is not an option on my mooring. All of them required a lot of work and I wasn't looking for a project boat. And yes, I would have been prepared to pay a premium price for one in good, sailaway condition.

Incidentally, if it had had gold-plated taps I'd have taken them off, sold them on e-bay and bought something useful. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Just wondered as I have one and she was in sail away condition when I delivered it for the previous owner and still was in sailaway condition when I bought it from him a couple of years later. (Mind you I have just had the decks epoxy injected due to a wee bit of crunchieness the cost of which was reflected in the price paid)

It is a bit like any "pre-owned" boat - there is always something to be done - it is just a case of how much you are prepared to do - or pay to have done.

Glad you found a boat in the end to suit you.
