I have a slight dilemma, in that having decided to splash out £100 k on a used boat, l now find that the origiginal manufacturer has gone into liquidation. If it was a car, l now wouldn't touch it with a barge pole, but is that necessarily the requisite coarse to take when dealing with boats.

I suppose my question is, does it matter and would the advise be to proceed or seek an alternative craft with a viable manufacturer still in business.

Boats are are almost completely equipped with third part yequipment, like engines, shafts, props, instruments, steering, toilets etc etc.
The hull and deck are usually manufactured using simply repaired techniques and materials.
If the hull was from a respected manufacturer, you should have no issues with resale.

Most of us sailing British manufactured boats have found that the manufacturer/builder has gone into receivership at least once!

A bit like a house; so long as it is beyond any warranty period I wouldn't worry. There are lots of superb boats on the water which were produced by builders who folded long ago.

What boat is she?

Chances are the manuals for everything important are either on board, or you can acquire them or someone here will know various components LOL.

I just done the same with my Powles 46. Not a lot of info around on those apart from one site and there were 14 of her model built. Won't be a problem though. She got 2 volvos, fairly well known, Onan genny, and other stuff that is common enough.
