Hello Everyone

Can anyone suggest the best family cruiser under 33 feet for a family which has good accommodation, stowage and is economical to run. We have looked at Nimbus 320 so far. Budget is about 100K.

Have to confess we are currently raggies and are about to change due to a toddler on board and a bad back! This plea for help comes from the skippers wife!

Thanks for any advice can give.

Do the kids like inside our outside activities?

If inside, what about a flybridge e.g. Sealine F33?

It will extend your season quite significantly.

Hi Sirius 66,

As a former raggie who moved over to the dark side last October, I can highly recommend a Nimbus 320.....but maybe I'm biased, as that's what we bought! :D

We love it's totally enclosed cabin, which means we can use her in all weather conditions, which is very appropriate with the 'balmy' summer weather we are having!

The single engine, shaft drive arrangement suits us, as it keeps the fuel and maintenance costs manageable, and the semi-displacement hull means she feels very secure, which is important with a young family onboard.

The build quality is excellent, though this is reflected in the selling prices, which are usually more than an equivalent sized 'volume built' sports cruiser, but this should bode well for future resale values.

I hope this will help.........but good luck with whatever motorboat you choose.......you certainly won't regret the move over to motorboating.........we haven't!

What sort of speed are you looking for (and maybe you want to think about that back and jarring)?
Plenty of Nimbus about usually and a popular boat so easy to change again, and if you consider something a bit older, you can get alot of boat...for example
http://www.jamesdickensmarine.com/Brokerage/Powerboats/Nimbus370.htm

Maybe one thing to give thought to though is where each deck is on one level, with a toddler,so less chance for falling over something . I have noticed some Nimbus are up and down a bit.
Prestige 32 on same web page as an idea...and some of the French stuff (though not the same build class as the Swedish boats IMHO)
Or a Nimbus 340?
Or go to Rightboat and put in a price bracket and get alot of ideas !

Reading your post carefully it would appear the last thing you need is a sports cruiser, anything with monster engines or a certain small flybridge more affected by wind than most sailboats.:) .These things are designed to go places fast with the fuel consumption to go with it,how does 20 gallons an hour sound, yup thats right about £100.00 pounds an hour in fuel ???.
The single engined Nimbus or perhaps a Kent or one of the smaller Hardys might just fit the bill giving you a economical soft comfortable ride most similar to your yacht.
Worth considering would be one of the Dutch steel boats or a Broom of some description.

I am considering a Nimbus ( along with a number of other makes ! ) as my next boat. What is your cruising speed and hourly fuel consumption assuming F3 and F4 conditions ? What engine do you have?

Thanks.

Hello Sirius,

because your're looking at a Nimbus:
Do you know the Scand 29 Baltic HT?
Norwegian built, rock solid. Powered by a single Volvo KAMD42, speed is about 22-24 knots.
Here in Germany those boats are known as very good family boats.

I have one for sale, it's berthed in Waterford, southern Ireland.

Or maybe somthing like a Broom 33?
Very spacious boats, with a nice command bridge.

Chris

How about a Sealine SC29? The roof arrangement makes it a safe place for the little one as you can have the roof open but still retain the safety of the sides being closed...
