New Year on the Thames?..

I heard recently that some like-minded folks on the Norfolk Broads get together each New Year's Eve to enjoy local fireworks and dinner etc, and then spend the night on their boats. Heating essential I dare say(!), but the idea really sounds quite apealling - anyone know of any suitable locations on the Thames where we might be able to enjoy some fireworks and maybe even bring in the New Year other boats too?...

We open the clubhouse on new years eve, some boats run down to the Mayors firework display and return,to continue partying. Everyone brings a platter to share, we always have food left over and the bar does very well. That is the tidal Thames (Hurlingham ) way to celebrate the new year. Have a good one everyone. Last year we went down to Windsor, and Brocas would make a great area to have fireworks? Nothing much was going on except for dozens of Chinese Lanterns taking off from Eton area.

Just been looking at your web site - you're a useful guy to know!!

Yes, I think with the bigger boats, mooring on the Brocas can be tricky - for us too as, just like MyShe above, we both have 38 foot sports cruisers. But I think we should be OK if we moor bows-in.

We're based in Bray, so often pass you on our way to Windsor. Give is us a shout / wave if you see us ('Heaven Spent', Sealine S38).

Eton. The open public space with high muddy banks adjacent to what used to be the Eton Boat houses. If you are of the fender sock brigade I suggest you moor elsewhere!

Hi Ross, (and Paul & Sarah),
Have been checking out 'fireworks in the local area and I think we are now planning to moor outside Oakley Court, have dinner (black tie) and watch theirs. Anyone else fancy it please join us,

PS We draught 3'2" and have managed to moor alongside Brocas - even with all this summer's low water - as long as the legs are up

Nothing at Dorney either, as far as I can tell.

So, we might be back to Plan-A, The Brocas. Could still put a black tie on though ;-)
