I'm about to order a new Jet rib for use in Mallorca, help needed on the colour options. Kids have picked blue or dark grey, however I'm concerned that blue or grey may fade in the sun.

Anyone have experience of colour fade or am I being over cautious?

Also what options would you recommend as this will be our first jet rib?

It won't fade but you'll be able to fry steaks not just eggs on a dark colour.
Ref options, can you post the list please?

Hi Tesams
I ordered a blue one this year. Wasn't expecting to be taking it to Mallorca at the time, and jfm's point about the heat absorption is a good one. All personal taste of course, but I do like the blue, particularly with blue canopies. Mine has strips of Grey at the top of the tubes each side which may help the heat issue a little if clambering aboard. Not sure if this is standard spec (my boat was already in build for stock or cancelled order when I bought it as I wanted it quickly).

The tubes will not fade, at least not for a very very long time.

I had what they were building. It has internal deck lights which I personally wouldn't have specced but have proved very useful for getting tipsy guests aboard more safely on the trips home from the restaurant in a dark harbour...

I probably would have specced the little patches of teak deck at the aft end if I could have, but some will think its a bit twee. The grey looks fine.

I probably would have gone for maximum HP (S model) but mine is the standard 80hp and I haven't felt short of horsepower at any time.

I can't recall what else was on the extras list? Im very pleased with the Williams once you get used to the counter-intuitive slow speed handling characteristics...

Hope this helps

I ordered a new 325 Turbo S earlier this year having had a 3 year old 325 before. The extras I would recommend are:-

1. The Teak inserts - easier to keep the deck looking clean and raises the floor line so the water drains out.
2. The Garmin VHF - Williams do a nice job on installing it with an external antenna.
3. Echo Sounder
4. The bathing ladder to get on board from skiing etc.

The Fusion MP3 player is a waste of time as you can't hear it above the engine.

Colour wise I went for the black carbon fibre look but am based in the UK.

The new model year is far drier than the previous model due to some extra spray rails.

The Williams is great fun and very well built and finished.

You may have an issue with passarelle height when you start mooring stern-to in Mallorca, especially if the pass is above the steering wheel. Dock heights vary, and some of the floating quays are no higher than those in the UK, so the pass needs to be pointing down at a reasonable angle to be able to step off comfortably.

It's not a big issue of course, worst case you can always carry some folding steps, but it may be something to look at before you go in case there are any mods you can do. Mine (not jet rib) was so borderline that a racing steering wheel was enough to allow the pass to lower between the transom moulding and the wheel.

Colour fade is not the problem it's keeping the tender as cool as possible in the hot son.

For me it's white, white or white as any other colour gets very hot compared to white.

We have had the seams delaminate on 2 occasions and Williams replaced the tubes.

Now I keep the tubes very soft when not on the boat and under inflated when the tender is in use.

Used to have a black tender cover and changed it for a white one. The difference in temperature is astounding.

I notice that they offer a black steering wheel, stay away from this option or you will need gloves in order to hold it.

You can easily run away with extras which you will never use and I would only suggest:
1) Bathing ladder
2) Anchor (handy when on the beach)
3) Depth gauge
4) Folding paddles ( for when you suck the ski line into jet unit. You will believe me)
5) Air horn (Not one with pressurised canister but one with manual air pump)
6) Hand held vhf (not a fixed unit)

There's not much room in these tenders even for the driver so keep the floor clear as much as possible.

NB Only buy stainless steel tie down straps. I find Rapid Marine products the best.

What bathing ladders are you all using?
Are they specific to Williams?
I've started looking round for a ladder for our new tender.
It seems to me that it should be stowable - put away in a locker when not in use.
I've seen those webbing ones (ebay I think) but it seems that they are difficult to use - everyone says that you need a rigid one to stop your feet swinging under the boat.
Any makes of ladder out there that are any good?

Thanks Nick. I hadn't thought of that. The Passerelle comes down just forward of the wheel, but even then it will only give us a few degrees downward angle. Wife has short legs and my larger than average gravitational attraction to the earth will no doubt lead to scenes of inelegant embarkation! I may well invest wisely in a small pair of steps.

The Williams ladders are built in and pull out when required. It's neatly designed.

I did ask for the ladder to be added to mine and was told that they were now a standard fitment on 2015 boats.

You won't be surprised to know that I didn't get in the water this year, so I haven't actually tried to use the ladder. I can't tell you whether it is vertically rigid when deployed, or free to move. I am hoping its rigid.

4) Folding paddles ( for when you suck the ski line into jet unit. You will believe me)

Im usually the belt and braces sort, but got caught out without a paddle on board when on the croissant run in Salcombe harbour. Highly embarrassing schoolboy error of sucking painter into the jet. 100yrds away from the boat. Crew all still asleep, no-one around and stupidly no mobile and no Handheld VHF. Luckily slack water and can confirm that it is possible to make the 325 move through the water by paddling as long as you have big hands!
I now have a folding paddle....

Just noticed that Williams offer a 'Removable Steering Wheel' in the extras list.

Could be helpful for anyone with a central passarelle.

Bought one last year, best options:
Extending bathing ladder stows in cassette under rib bathing platform
Footwell led lights.... avoids slightly tipsy restuarant runs disasters
Definetely removable steering wheel
Really like the teak (imitation) footwells, (no) step grp stern covers & bathing platform.... they do get hot though!!

Purchased a 325s earlier this year..
Teak definitely looks fantastic over the std
Depth gauge is useful
And this time we also went for the LED deck lights which are a must for late night use, especially after a few drinks!

The swim ladder is amazing - if only the pull out one on the mother ship was a good!

I retro fitted the hi fi - i rather like it. At speed you can hear nothing, but as a DIY it cost me about £200 using all fusion kit and took a few hours. Very pleased.

I would like teak - don't have it . Tick that box. The LED deck lights are good also.

You MUST get a long ( very long) socket set (17 and 19mm I think but not sure) as the ONLY way to get the ski rope out is to take the drive off. Get the rope out and put it back together. Takes about 45 mins with the right tools - forever without.
