The Westerly Owners Association have just launched their new web site.
https://westerly-owners.uk/

It combines the the old web site and forum into a social media style format. Personally I have been involved with the testing over the past few months. It looks and feels much better, hopefully everyone will agree once they have mastered the new style of presentation.

Anyone who has a Westerly or is interested in buying a Westerly is very welcome to have a look.

The new forum is only available to members of the WOA it seems ?

It's open to anyone VicS if you PM your details I'll set you up an account. We haven't gone down the route of having a subscribe button at the moment but may think again once it's bedded in.....

The website actually says that the forums are a privilege for members.

Yes, it does look better but it needs proper proofreading and testing - there are a lot of broken links, for example.

I just tried to login with my membership details and as usual with sites I don't login to very often I had to reset my password. The form I was using on chrome required a 12 character minimum length password. Is this intentional? I'd have trouble remembering my name if that was 12 characters long, let alone a seldom used password.

Most websites seem to have gone mad with password requirements. In the case of the WOA, I'd have thought asking for the membership number and surname would be sufficient.

It didn't accept my password. I clicked for the link to reset my password but is rejecting my old one as "too weak".

It's hard to see what the purpose of this 12-character requirement is and I've sent them feedback to that effect.

I had a quick browse through yesterday and it all looked pretty good to me. I logged in with my old 7 character password fine.

I did inadvertently join the East Coast Group by clicking on a link that I though was perhaps just for more information, but nope a one-step sign up. No biggy. I'm sure with a bit of use the site will get tweeked a little further.

Concerto, karen joined last week, and she cannot find anything on the new site except by scrolling down the "stream of consciousness" I thought she was being daft, but I had a try myself, it is very difficult to "know where you are" and where to find things, there appears to be no kind of archive. It is a shame as we have lots to ask and contribute in the next few months, but it is just too ungainly. Maybe we are luddites, but it just doesnt suit us at all. If it could just list subjects it would be massively better.
No problems logging in though.

Well done for the upgrading. Sure things will settle down.

As for the damning with faint praise or objective criticism brigade maybe they should try another more suitable backwater.

Its a friendly group for a defined interest and they do a great job.

Give them some credit and encouragement.

I put in a new one last night
I used a 9 digit one which included 3 caps. An ! 3 numbers and the other 2 lowercase letters. This was too weak to be accepted. The addition of 1 more number accepted as medium strength.

I passed the example to the vice commodore suggesting that his was unnecessarily complicated in view of the lack of sensitivity of the site. They are looking at it.

Really??? Either your post is one of the singularly most ill judged I have read in a while, or....
Hey, I guess you are right, if you post typifies the members attitudes, they can keep our membership fee, we wont bother ever posting on or going there if that is the likely kind of attitude - especially when constructive criticism has been actively asked for.
Just another clique of unwelcoming individuals if that is the attitude.

As the site is totally different to the old web site and the separate forum web site, it is going to take a while to get used to it being combined. It will become a very good source for information as more people post on the forum using hashtags, allowing searches to more easily find answers to problems. I am hoping that the information on the old forum will still be available to search, even though it cannot be brought into the new site.

There are still a few unexpected gremlins that have appeared now it has gone live, but that has to be expected. Behind the scenes I am submitting minor problems I have found. Any problems either post on the new forum or post on here so they can be addressed.

Overall the presentation is certainly better. The biggest advantage is the ability to add photographs to the forum and having classified adverts with multiple photos (this was not possible on the old web site).

If one of my websites had numerous spelling mistakes, grammatical errors and broken links, I'd be pleased to be alerted.

The old forum was very useful for the knowledge it contained, however it cannot be brought into the new format. Any questions you may have, just post on the forum and either I or another regular poster should answer your query quickly. In time the hashtags (once people use them) will tie all relevant posts to specific subjects and will make searching solutions much better than the old forum.

The loss of the old forum means the thread I had about renovating my Fulmar (the second most read thread on the old forum) is currently not available. However I made a copy of all relevant posts into a 38 page Word document. It will be rewritten to become part of the Westerly Wiki. Instead of an "as it happens style", it will hopefully be easier to read and find information quickly with photographs included. So please be patient as I have a lot of work to do. If you want to see the file of photos http://s1294.photobucket.com/user/ConcertoFulmar32/library/?sort=3&page=1

thanks chap, but we will stick to asking on here, bad taste in mouth already with the attitude of some. First impressions and all that. Generally speaking we try not to engage with people we wouldnt want to meet in real life.

My comment was intended as helpful. Hope it is interpreted as such.

I've used the old site only occasionally to look up technical data and search the forums to solve problems. I've had to reset my password a few times in the past but 12 characters with many other requirements is over the top.

FWIW, I think that for the money the WOA is good value. I've chatted very happily to the reps at boat shows and had good advice. I'm not an active member due to work, family commitments etc. but I appreciate the efforts of those that do contribute (much like these forums really!)
