Thanks for a reminder on another forum, the new Walton Bridge gathers apace. Great activity this morning apparently when the arches were lifted into place (must have been a jolly big crane, a 1,000 ton jobby perhaps)

For those of you with not a lot to do, there's a live webcam here.

It will be great to have the old bridges demolished, ugly and not terribly convenient to navigate.

Far more to the point, will it resolve the chronic and crippling traffic problems that have blighted the area for the last four or five decades because of endless procrastination on replacing the old one?
 
Was looking at the webcam and the picture above and wondering what effect the increased river levels and currents are having on the concrete sections being supported by the construction anchored in the middle of the river. Presumably the centre of that span is now a few feet higher than it was?

The temporary support is not floating it is piled into the river bed. The concrete sections are in fact hollow steel.
