You know, I don't think I'd care if I could afford one. Must say that the boringly traditional design of most sailing boats surprises me. I know they have first and foremost to do a job, but surely there is room, and a market, for a bit of style in production boats, below and above decks. With all the wonderful modern materials out there why is everything still stuck in the 70s? We can't even seem to go backwards - was talking quite seriously to a premium builder at SBS about whether we could get a custom old fashioned painted tongue and groove finish - ooooohh no - best they could do was 70's style woodwork in light oak rather than teak. Not knocking what is for those who like it, but hardly designed to pull in a younger generation of sailor.
OK, I reckon if enough of us get together and do over a well laden Group4 van we could have this one. PM me for more details (but don't forget the secret knock)
I had a look around one of the earlier ones once, and it was interesting inside, although not as swish as this one. Apparently though, it raced fairly succesfully and sailed pretty damned well, but it was built very lightly and wasn't too strong- bits breaking off in a sea.
As Robin will attest we don't allow anything over 40' alongside the quay. Personally I'd tie it up out the Royal Lym or if not enough room then up to the RYS in Cowes.
From what I hear from elder son who builds composite yachts, they are usually fast but the quality of build is down to the yard and the build team.
He says not all are constructed in the same single location.
IMHO not all of them look as good as the one in this picture. Spent time last year in Italy and saw one that I'd definately not choose (even if I won the euro lottery).
But I feel the same about some Ferraris also......

Your son is right Swagman. I've been on lots of Wallys. The early ones built in Pendennis were just ok, but the interior fit out on the more recent Tunisia builds is rough imho. The exterior looks and the sail performance are fantastic though, imho. The interior finish on the Wally power 118 is also pretty rough: crappy veneered panels in the cabins; dashboard instruments all a bit not lined up...
