New versions of old classic 20 footers?

The 'floating caravan' description of the Westerlys was a poor description of their sailing performances that gave safe if not sparkling performances, and the Cirrus was such a boat, and later the Tiger, both with the fin keels that out-sailed larger LWL yachts at times.

Don't forget the Jouster! Built for JOG racing, goes like stink. Well, went like stink, if you insist, but still great fun ... and surprisingly affordable if you know who to ask.

I think that the relative number of people who were born in the late 60/early 70s, grew up in the 80 and now have enough cash to splash on a boat are going to be far less enamoured with the whole camp cruising in small boats thing. Privation is much less acceptable.
Well I fit that demographic pretty well, and I have just bought an 18 footer from 1983 and am quite happy with the concept of that size of boat.

Clearly I "don't fit in" to normal expectations then, or I never "made it" because I could not afford something much bigger and posher than what I have just bought.

But then again, I have been very happy having holidays in tents, camper vans caravans and narrowboats, and this little boat is just another variation of that small accommodation.

Snap. I'm with you Pro Dave.

I don't think I am badly paid and have no kids, yet there's no way I could afford a new boat, let alone something that's barely more than camp cruising. (Although admittedly, "grew up" relatively late, and counting).

Perhaps Keen_Ed's demographic could do with a decade being added, unless it refers to bankers, dentists and accountants only.
