New turkish residents permit requirements

Hi all

Tried to post this is turkish visa post, but being a newbie, nothing happened!

Anyway, the new e visa is all well and good, no problem there, my question is what if , like me you want to spend the winter and a little more in Turkey? ( we live on board 365.)

The answer is get a residents permit. Having enquired in turkey and with the marina, it seems the requirement is a lot of photos, passport copies etc etc, which is no problem, but the real sticking point is that you must hold health insurance. We do not have health insurance, so we were told we need to get this. Turkish health insurance is around 260tl/ month per person ie around €70 each.

This requirement, if true will stop our long term trip to turkey dead in its tracks and we will still visit, but only on an e visa for 90 days.

As this is all new to the visa system is ther anyone out there who has had first hand experience of this health insurance requirement? We really want to spend a good while in Turkey, but not at € 140 / month for health insurance on top of blue card, visas , marinas etc etc

Thanks in advance.

The new provisions were investigated last spring by the Setur group of marinas (I was wintering in Finike at the time). Amongst the very helpful explanations received on the various potentially worrying points was this concerning health insurance:
Health insurance: mandatory.
However, approval is acceptable for citizens of countries that have “social security bilateral agreement” with Turkey which is obtainable from “Social Security Department” in Kumluca. These countries I have checked in Internet are ; Germany, France, Holland, Belgium, Denmark, Austria, Switzerland, Sweeden, England, Check Republic, Canada, Norway.

Hi macd,

Thanks for that, sounds encouraging! We are headed to finike maybe! But were a little worried by the reply we recieved from setur which said we needed health insurance cover.

We do not want to get there and have a nasty suprise sprung on us!

As a holder of a Residents Permit which I have recently renewed for the new annual red card I can confirm that you will need health insurance if you are under 65 years of age; health insurance not being required for over 65 years of age is a very recent clarification and only just now filtering down to the Local polis offices. If you go for a one year RP , the maximum short term RP available, then you will need cover for both in and out patients . Cruiser007 the insurance you are referring to is the state insurance SGK which is 275 TL per month for an individual or a married couple but goes up twice a year.Once in it is not the easiest to get out of. A number of insurance companies have acceptable policies which are cheaper for an individual, but tend to cut off at age 60, though Sigorta Insurance carries on until 70.If you go for a RP of less than 12 months then travel insurance from your own country is acceptable as long as it is with a company that operates in Turkey eg AXA . You have to get the relevant parts translated , including often a definition of words like "Worldwide" to demonstrate it covers Turkey and notorised. Now comes the "only in Turkey bit" - if your travel policy only covers for say 90 days and you apply for a 6 month RP then you will apparently get the RP together with a letter which says you need to extend your insurance but as far as I am aware you do not have to demonstrate this.

Akyaka and macd, thank you very much for your detailed info. Very helpful.

We are uk citizens under 60 with no travel insurance.

It looks like it may be possible to firstly enter under the evisa scheme, and near the end of that 3 months, apply for a red card of say 4 months, which should about do it for us. If we can arrange travel insurance for that 4 months, from axa for example then we could have a solution!

I think we will enter under the e visa and see what the situation is on the ground in Finike before buying travel insurance.

Really looking forward to visiting Turkey, we have never been there and have loads to see!

Thanks again.

Yes that should work but don'tstint on the length of the Red Card RP as to revert to an E visa if you wish to stay a little longer will not be possible without leaving Turkey at the end of your RP and then returning on an E visa. There is also the question whether you can do this and not get caught with the 90 in 180 day countback limitation however anectdotal evidence is that the period whilst on an RP does not figure in the calculation.

I hope you get it sorted, Turkey is a fantastic cruising area.

Cruiser:
yes, you should have plenty of time to work out the details after your arrival, particularly if you e-visa allows you a month or two in Finike before you need residence. Nearest offices for ikamet (residency permit) are Kas and Kemer, both readily accessible by cheap local bus (or boat).

See you in Finike (probably arriving some time in November).
