New toys for Bizzy Bee - installation advice for thru hull transducer

When you say GRP lined, I guess its not an inner liner otherwise you will have to cut through that to reach the outer hull, if its just standard GRP then you only need to degrease and sand it so the epoxy keys to it.

I dont recall the exact terminology that Sealine use but it's something like "GRP washing" of the boat interior as can be seen in the bilge within this photo.. so long as there's no air gaps or anything as Omega2 says, I'll mount it in the flat bit just in front of the engines and aft of the ridge that separates the main bilge area from the bilge pump (out of shot)

Gary, if your S28 is anything like ours you will need to cut through the liner to stick the transducer directly to the hull. I have a transducer fitted like this in mine. i'll see if I can find a picture.

I had the V774 transducer on my boat refitted last week to deal with the liner problem outlined by Neale. When originally fitted before I took ownership it had been put through the hull and liner with no packing to allow the fittings to be fully tightened. A section of liner has now been removed and glassed in correctly and then the transducer and fairing have been properly fitted with the correct angle so that the transducer is vertical instead of at right angles to the hull angle (if that makes sense).

Here's a picture after fitting but before the transducer had been hooked up. The tube is to allow a second stand by shoot through the hull nasa transducer to be fitted.

Hope that is helpful.

After years of landing nothin' but old trouts, Gary finally had to admit that everything he pulled was just carp!
:p
edit: Except of course for Debs who is lovely, altho clearly she must've been half cut when she agreed to go out with fish man.
