So the deed is done and i am now the proud owner of a 2004 S58 that is now sunbathing in Palma without me - but i am back at the weekend!

I would post more pics but Photobucket is difficult to use and why the forum dont sort pics i will never know!

Boat has 500 hours, all bills back to 2007 and has had a careful owner from what i can see.

Needs new interior linings in a few places and the teak on the flybridge has seen better days, but the rest of it is all good.

Ice maker is broken but I have just bought one of Coastal Rides so we will see how that goes.

The utility has a washing machine and storage but the freezer has been removed. Vote seems to be to put another fridge in there once I figure out the size and model that will get through the door.

First impressions are it is well built, and whilst the curves are not current fashion, boy did someone put a lot of work into building it.

Installed a 43 inch tv in the saloon up down ( Euro 480 from Carfour) which took me 2 days, but the only thing the original sharp was suitable for was being an anchor!

Has a Avon 320 rib with 25HP yamaha on it. No reasonable or unreasonable offer refused if anyone in Mallorca wants it as I will probably buy a Williams 325 to stick on the back of it.

As some know I had a S65 before this which went in my divorce. The loss of the mid cabin is a shame, but given I only sleep in it and the bed is comfortable I will live!

The flybridge is nice and the utility makes up for the rather dire storage in the galley. There are 3 electric windows ( to go wrong ...) and one is already stuck (forward Port ) and i have no idea how to take it to bits ... yet.


Moving to Marina De Mallorca at the weekend - had a berth in Club De Mar but it was on the outside. We had a blow last week on Wednesday and Thursday and no way was I leaving it there!

I have a few questions which i will post on separate threads so things dont get too lost!

Congrats J, the Sq58 is the one and only Brit boat I also considered in my boat search.
In fact, I ruled her out just because some other boats were (imho) better in terms of value for money, not because I didn't like her! :encouragement:

If you (as myself) prefer to have usable space elsewhere in a boat, you will appreciate the much better natural ventilation, which you can only dream of with mid cabins. And in Med anchorages, that's a big plus in my experience.
Otoh, you surely will notice a bit more wave slapping noise in the bow cabin, but in plastic boats that can be annoying also in the mid cabin, for those who can only sleep in total silence...

PS: coming to think of it, 500 hours on a 2004 boat?!? Did the owner actually hate boating...?

Fantastic boat Jeremy - I had one for 7 years and put 1000 hours on her. Fantastic hull, great layout and pretty bombproof build. Here's to exciting new horizons for you and the kids....

one Q though, first pic, there's an odd looking bimini NOT covering the helm! wtf? you put shade on the sunpads and leave the helmsman to sunburn?
Can you shift that fwd, or replace with a larger one?
If I were in Mallorca, I'd buy the avon, but I'm a probably a couple of K nm away

The s 58 has 2 Biminis. It is early in the season and I wanted some sun.

The second one is up now so all is shady !

You are so right. We Med boaters would rather put to sea with a broken engine than a broken ice maker. There are some sacrifices that we simply shouldnt be asked to make

I remember it well it was in alcudiamar I certainly never saw it move ?

Alcudia it was indeed. It seemed to do a steady 40 odd hours a year which if you stick to your local cruising area can give you a lot of time on the water in mallorca.

Previous owner has just bought a brand new boat so seems to like it ?!

Congratulations on a fantastic boat!

Regarding the electric window; afaik on my phantom the lifting mechanism is accessed by removing the grp panel on the (out)side of the superstructure, below the window. The panel is held in place with a mastic of some sort, so removing it requires a knife, etc.

I haven't (yet) had it go wrong on my boat but know of another, where retro fitted teak deck blocked the drainage causing water level inside to rise until it jammed the motor.

Oddly there is a ventilation grill on the port side panel, but not on the stb side.

Not 100% sure on this but worth checking.

Thank you. I confess to not having looked at it in any detail yet. It will either involve what you suggest or taking apart the dinette seating. Joy on both counts !
