New to forum, anyone out there have a regal 2665 yanmar 240hp.

Thanks for all your advice and I will order one of these, would I need to measure the rpm while the boat is in motion under load or can I measure it while out of gear and simply rev'd up? I agree that I should leave well alone and manage the higher rev's with my brain and my right throttle hand!!

Clean up crank damper with some brake cleaner and stick on reflective tape. Get motor nice and warm, perhaps a short spin, and make sure thermostat is open.

Out of gear gradually open throttle, I would take reading at idle, spec is in range 725/775 then say 2,000 3,000 and finally at WOT, do not be too keen to pull throttle back (no blipping), wait for governor stabilise, let motor just sing to you, it will come to no harm. I will take bet that your tacho will be reading at least 100 rpm high and could possibly be as much as 150 rpm optimistic.

Good luck

Many thanks, have just ordered so will give it a try at the weekend if it comes in time. If you have ever seen the engine bay on a 2665 you will understand dread at having to this, the hatch is so small you have to be a trained monkey to get near all the 'spinning' bits, my head will be very close to belts! I'll make sure I get a hair cut first!!!!

Will let you know how I get on...thanks again.

Hi, thanks for reply.

My main issue is that at WOT I'm at 3700 rpm, which is 400 rpm over the rated 3300 rpm that the manual states. Admittedly this is with a clean hull/prop and only two on board but with a full tank so I would say medium load. The hull seems to enjoy about 26 knots but that means running at 3500 rpm which I am converned will damage the engine over time due to running at 200 rpm over max recommended. My duo prop pitch is 26 inch and if I go up to the next one which is 28inch it will drop the revs too much and put the engine under strain. I'm guessing that I have the best compromise as the boat is probably suited best to a great big V8 petrol which most of the American boats have.

Am I worrying unnecessarily?

Hi, did you ever get to the bottom of this? I have recently bought the same boat and she can't seem to get over 23knts??
