If it's as good as they say, it's pretty neat, but I think I can manage without for pottering around the Solent
Likewise, I try never to be more than a day's sail from fresh gin, so of little use to me.
But I've read/seen that the filters can be a pain with trad watermakers, and this seems to do without.

The video stopped working for me, so how many liters per hour does it produce?

It required me to turn off my add blocker so I haven't read it but that's the first question I would ask as those that need a watermaker on a boat as opposed to a liferaft need a lot and it doesn't seem to have that capability.

Supposedly costs only $50 (but that's probably without pre-filters, etc.). And it's small. Produces only 0.3 liters per hour, which is survival stuff, not showering or laundry. Uses 20 Wh per liter, so 6 W per hour runtime (making 0.3 liters in that time).

Theoretically you could just get 100 of these for a total $5000 and make 30 liters an hour drawing 600W (per hour).

But for the same price you can get a modern energy recovery watermaker which makes the same 30 liters an hour while drawing only 110W and it's a lot more compact than 100 suitcases.

Who told you that? I have been running my home built watermaker for 8 years making 200 l/hr. Not sure why you think filters are a pain

No one in particular. Just something I seem to have picked up from various utubes and stories.

I’ve been looking at these . Schenker do a suitcase version for about £5000.00 ( Aquatrek) , but also found a Chinese manufacturer on Alibaba who will sell single units for under £800.00 which promise “up to 150l/hr” ( suspicious ) Wholesale Solar powered DC12V DC24V Suitcase type Small water maker salty water desalination system Drinking watermaker From m.alibaba.com
Anybody want to be a guinea pig ?

That's a low pressure system which cannot handle seawater. You can buy those for household water cleaning: 5 Stage Reverse Osmosis Unit | Toolstation

The table on the Alibaba listing clearly states, intake TDS must be under 1000 ppm. Seawater is 35'000 ppm or so. Design pressure 100 psi (6.8 bar) - seawater RO requires around ten times that pressure.

There is a related product on the bottom that does have the right numbers for seawater, but costs significantly more: Compact Suitcase Portable Seawater Desalination Machine 240l/d - Buy Salt Water Treatment System,Portable Water Purification Systems For Africa,Compact Seawater Maker Product on Alibaba.com
