Good day all,
Have to replace cockpit speakers on my boat & the "stereo" is looking a little arc like !
Best to say I just need a replacement for old radio cd ?

What is current thinking and any likely models - the Fusion whatever at £ 700+ is way over budget.

If I can attach Ipod/phone & a laptop(To listen to UK Radio- DAB usually) via aux or Bluetooth that covers most of it for me.
Bit of a music fan so playing Cds still useful but have these on phone - Records however !!

Dont stream or spotify very often (just radio via laptop)

Is this analog man missing anything ?

I'd probably go for a 'mechless head unit' which has amp and controls, radio, and slots for USB sticks and cards with MP3s on.
I put one in a car some years back, it did the job nicely without tying up a phone. I paid about £40 IIRC.

I am in the same position and was looking on eBay for something that had Bluetooth, DAB and FM - was surprised just how cheap a single DIN unit was.

I have a Samsung soundbar in the saloon. This is connected to the laptop via cable and can be connected to my phone by Bluetooth. I can listen to every radio station in the country using the Radio Player app' on my phone, i can also listen to You Tube music or saved music too. Using the laptop i can also use You Tube or listen to saved music (the laptop uses mobile data from the phone, set as a mobile hotspot.

If using the phone/soundbar the laptop does not have to be on and the soundbar uses about 0.3a.

I used to have a Sony and a JVC before that, both of which had remote controls. My latest one, (Pioneer), can be controlled by a Bluetooth app on the phone - I would prefer a physical remote, but couldn't find a head unit with one. Progress eh?

I paid about £90 for a Sony one that did bluetooth, took input from 3.5mm jack (from iPod), also USB and a host of other things. Most important was that the radio side of things was DAB. I found that a circa £12 aerial stuck on the inside of a saloon window enables very good reception indeed. No CD player unfortunately!

Yes, I almost fell for that when I replaced mine. Most of the units now come without CD player and I only noticed at the last minute the one i'd chosen didn't have it. I was that engrossed looking at the other things like blue tooth, aux input, usb slot, remote control that I forgot completely that I still needed a CD slot.

If you have a unit with bluetooth but no CD and you want to use CD’s you can get a small bluetooth transmitter that a portable CD player can be connected to using a 3.5mm jack plug lead. They cost about £20.
