New Spray Hood

Have finally succumbed to buying a spray hood. It's a fairly major purchase so I want to get it right and am looking for forumites experiences. Looking for ideas and what not to do. I would like proper grab handles incorporated and possibly some storage pouches for example.
Thanks,
Mark

Sketrick Sailmakers did mine, just down the road from you. I left the boat there for them to measure up and fit.

... Side grab handles are also a must. Essential safety item...

I agree, when I have to go forward in rough conditions getting past the spray hood is the most awkward part of the journey. There's a few feet where I'm out of reach of both the grab rails on the cabin roof and the rail on the rear of the spray hood. It would help to have a grab rail which continues outside the fabric like in the attached photo but I've never seen this offered on any of the spray hood manufactures' websites.

Examples of side welded grab handles here.

These can also be leathered.

Jaybee63, thanks for your input, most helpful,
Mark.
We are not in a postion to help you, not having what you require on file and due to your locality, but any questions, help or advice, I am always more than happy to help with.
I would always look at examples of a company's work, this is probably the biggest advice I can give.

Sprayhood Side Handles

I added these to my sprayhood after seeing a commercially produced version costing in the region of £180. Mine used off the shelf parts and probably cost around £50.

I believe the off the shelf ones have a hinge enabling the hood to still fold. However there has not really been much of a take up on these, even thou they have been around for a while. However if folding the hood is not a requirement, your solution looks neat.

Yes there were folding ones available - but at around £250 they were even more expensive! I don't need to fold the hood down but they can be unscrewed in a couple of minutes if required.

I did contemplate using these but decided against a folding option as it is not used:

Jonny at Boatcovers.ie made me up a new one earlier this season and I'm delighted with it. He's based in Co Down but traveled the 150 miles first to measure up, fit the frame and make the pattern and the second time for final fitting. nothing was too much trouble and he was very helpful with the design. All the photos on the website are his actual work. No personal connection just a satisfied customer.

Will look him up, thanks
