New small OB, what to go for ?

I have a honda 2.3 getting towards its end of its 5 yrs warranty, had a new carb 2012.

It's used for a few mins either way, on / off mooring.

5hp might be better for the very few against wind & tide returns, but the 2.3 copes.

I'm happy to source a 2 stroke if available, don't care about the purchase cost.

Reliability is king.

Any suggestion ?

Can't help with choice of outboard but if the only reason your letting the old one go is because it's near the end of its warranty I'd be interested.

(I've only ever used 'disposable' 2hp yamahas etc before, bought cheap and run to destruction)

Similar thread came up, recently. Slightly different use, though. Personally, I'd aim for 3.5hp. I find our 2.5hp 4t just a tad underpowered.

Have had a Mariner 2.5 since 2003.
Never given us any trouble.
Would recommend it.

i have a spare Mariner 2hp i have loaned folk when theirs goes duff + a Tohatsu 3.5 for everyday use, its faultless, well both are

Illegal to import a 2stroke to the uk.

How anyone would know if you were over there and came back with an outboard on your bracket that was brand new is a different question.
