On our own boat, I prefer the homeliness of a lower sheet and duvet, but whenever I go on another I take my sleeping bag. It is a reasonable 'mummy' bag which packs down quite well, but isnt great for 'the larger man'.

I need one with more width in the upper body regions.

Any tips ?

I have a moderately serious mummy bag which I've used in a tent in the snow, and on our own boat I always use a sheet and duvet, but for visiting other boats I have a big square bag which I bought in Towsure. Doesn't look at all "techy", it looks like bedding, with the inside and outside being mostly cotton (I think the insulation is probably polyester). Essentially it's a thinnish duvet that folds in half and zips up. Plenty of room inside, not constricting, just the job for sailing.

Argos do some larger bags. 'swhere I got mine from and I know other forumites have done so too.

Cannot stand mummy bags - I need to part my legs and let the vitals breath at night
Yeomans do a really big sleeping bag about the size and shape of a single bed which I find great.

I have been using these:

from Tesco. I believe they sell a larger version too. Last year they were clearing them off at £8 a shot. I must admit that on two occasions, when training it back from other people's boats I simply left the bag behind saying "Bin it or wash it and save it for guests". I have lent them to guests who didn't know their origin and have had surprisingly favourable feedback. With sleeping bags and pillows we now adopt a buy cheap and junk it when it gets scabby approach.
